Tom asks about the ply reinforced areas on the upper surface of the Gothas's lower wings. Are they bare ply, painted (any idea what colour - LOL) or is the loz fabric doped over top of them as is generally doen with ply leading edges. He's *specifically* interested in the G.V - but practice on the earlier models may be indicative if nothing else surfaces (pun intended) I don't have my Gotha! special since a friend is using it to build a G.III and my few other references are not much help Shane tE (Heck I hate Monday. Well, you can take a horse to water... FWIW Shane, try the Flashback Strutter. Very decent model (even with the fix you have to do to the French single-seat bomber turtledeck...). Plus Roden's releasing the Strutter in Balloon Scale, so that should be good (although I hope they did proper research for the French single-seat bomber this time - theirs is even worse than the Flashback kit ;-)). > (Not allowed to carry a boner on account of harrasment legislation, but > nevertheless lusting for a series of big meaty ladies of the sky. I think that's pretty cool, specially as the experience could save your life eventually! See the training as a grown up version of one of those acuatic roller coasters in amusement parks! BTW, speaking of naval actions, I've forgotten that in 1915 an Argentinian vessel loaded with leathers and bound to Germany was intercepted and captured by English warships off patagonian coasts(perhaps by the same flotilla that saw action on the Malvinas?). The Argentinian government claimed to the English Crown for the commercial damage and after the war, and our government received several aircraft as a payment, since the merchant ship misteriously "dissapeared" during the three years before reparation. The interception of the boat was a cause of the German shortage on leather goods, as no other ship with this cargo was sent from Argentinian ports after this incident. Well, it seems as I'll have to swallow my speech (gee I wish I wasn't so talkative). I searched what I remembered to be some pictures with two finishes on the same shot, but I found a couple of inconclusive images. "The tricks memory plays" as Herr Timm used to say. One is on the Albatros fighters Special, several Albatros on the same picture, and tents in the background. Some are darker than others, but they're are not in the same direction regarding the sun, so who can say if they're not the same? Other less-than-sharp picture of Albatros D.II taking off show a difference in hue, but again... not wood grain can be seen, so it's likely that one of them is painted in camouflage as the famous captured "8". I'll keep looking, but my hopes are down now. One of the doubts I had when i started my own D.II was if the interior of the fuselage would be "dark" as the exterior. i choose a lighter hue as it would show better the details inside D. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hans Trauner" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Friday, August 30, 2002 7:46 PM Subject: [WWI] Re: Albatros D.II Fuselages > Listees, > I ahve discussed that problem with my friend Jürgen Kiroff > (www.rlm-farben.de). The figures (and the casting) are superb, but the painters didn't do justice to the subtetlies of the figure portraits(for instance the delicate sculpting of the fur coat of Hawker). I hope they could have Mike Good painting them. I'm sure they will look a whole lot better than now.
