Hans, in re; to your situation with trying to rig that long stretch on the Albatros and not having any straight wire. I'm assuming the problem is the wire is too flimsy and you're getting sag. I don't know what kind of wire you're using, but when I have that problem, I hold a length of the wire (I use .008 steel guitar string) with pliers at each end, pull it tight and run it through a candle flame, tempering the wire. The end result is a gun barrel straight, very stiff(and somewhat brittle) piece of wire perfect for that long stretch from the nose to the bottom wing, with no sag. The pass through the fire also gets rid of polished steel look of the new strings. Also note, steel wire becomes magnetized in the fire, making installation a bit more tricky; you'll get the wire set perfectly in position and when you try to let it go, it sticks to the tweezers. Either use plastic tweezers or put a piece of masking tape on the jaws of your metal tweezers. Or invest in some kind of de-magnetizer. Hth, ymmv, mcd(may cause drowsiness), etc... Michael said it was gritty too. I don't understand - sounds like you got a dud batch, because proper Vegemite is smoother than a babies butt. By the decription it was from one of the little catering sachets used to provide a single serve barely sufficient to cover a slice of toast in hotel breakfasts, and in my experience they tend to dry out somewhat - though not to the extent of grittiness. Which is not to say that I don't (or haven't) eaten gritty Vegemite. Sandwiches on the beach get that way..... When I responded to this thread I had in mind that someone said the material was pink - which renshape is - and never thought twice about balsa foam. It *is* interesting. I a sheet at home, about 12" x 8" x 1" which cost in the order of A$45 or A$50 It's quite similar to renshape (MUCH cheaper) but buff coloured and *maybe* a bit softer. I say *maybe* because I don't remember what grade it is, and balsafoam comes in several different densities - you buy it by specifiying the weight per cubic foot. The less dense material is easier to work, but won't hold such fine detail, the denser is harder and WILL hold fine detail. IIRC I could inscribe a satisfactory panel line on renshape, or on ethe densest balsafoam, but not on the softer versions. OTOH the softer stuff can be shaped fairly easily with just emery sticks, and should make decent vacform masters. At first in acrylic Pactra (very good) RLM 62 green diluted with Future (week ago), and later - just now - airbrushed with - YES!!! - terribly bright brick-red-brown, from Revell acrylics, also with Future. Revells are terrible experience (covers very poorely), but I've bought some very cheap, and this particular colour matched my needs perfectly. It took me 3 days to decide to use this brick-red colour. It's really bright, but I love it. I'm not a Des Moines member, but I can answer. Yes, Hobby Haven is still there in their old spot. However, they are moving to quite a bit larger facility in the near future (but not exactly when). And the other you're thinking of is Great Hobby Adventures (GHA) home of the Plastic Sturgeons, er, Surgeons. ;-) GHA is primarily more for the large scale crowd, while HH carries a lot of the older kits, including 1/72nd. No. Grunwald (Tannenberg) is 150km West from Masurian Lakes. But near Masurian Lakes it was second famous battle in 1914 - 5-15 September Ludendorff and Hindenburg's victory over Rennekampf's army. In the Tannenberg battle (26-31 August 1914) L&H crushed Samsonov's army and then advanced to Masurian Lakes to fight Rennekampf. This two battles were ended the great Russian offensive in East Prussia. BTW, history knows two important Tannenberg battles. The first was in 1410, when Polish and Lithuanian forces crushed completely Teutonic Order knights and supporting them West-European knights. It was one of the biggest Polish victories, it ended German supremacy in this part of Europe for at least 300 years. Cheers! I did take the ribs down and worked them into shape rather than leaving them fat. Generally the Pup is a remedial build for me which was meant to be mainly OOB. As such it has been great fun and is achieving my aim of making the hobby enjoyable again. Diego, I'm interested in your 'suggestion of lettering' technique you talked about. Would this work in 1/72 - mostly you can see the presentation lettering. All the Best Neil E. (Southern One) ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 4573 **********************
