The Furniture World China & Woodworking Machinery China is nationally acclaimed as the finest and largest exhibition of its kind in the Northern China. Now in its fifth year, the show has grown by leaps and bounds. Furniture World China 2001 attracted 426 furniture manufactures from home and abroad with an exhibiting space of nearly 20000 sq. m. During a four day exhibition, the total value of on-site orders amounted 56 million US Dollars; 40,000 trade visitors came from 28 provinces and municipalities across China as well as 18 countries such as Australia, Britain, Burma, Canada, Fuji, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Ukraine and U. S. A. Among all exhibitors of the last edition, 60% were loyal customers with participating more than 2 times; 85% were satisfied with the quality and quantity of visitors; 80% obtained orders on site; 80% of them will return to the 2002 event. A net space of 6000 sq. m. of coming event was res erved on the spot. All those records have proved the continuous efforts we had made to provide the exhibitors and visitors the most professional services. And naturally Furniture World China has been recognized as a platform for suppliers and end-users to establish contacts and to conduct business in China. The wierd people that creat the virus seeds send out the thing in such a manner that it steals other addresses in various members address books. If they open the thing it has everything it needs, and continues to be sent out. They send the mesages from the addresses of members. They are not from wwi. The only way to stop them is with a good program that locates the virus, advises that it is there and provides a means to destroy it rather than have it forwarded to every one in your address book with more fake return addresses attached. I never had any problem until I was forced to use MS. Internet Explorer, and the related e-mail system, Outlook Express.. It became a hazard the very first day but zi already had Norton installed since I was not a really stupid sort of average "Duck". First chance I get it will be changed. I tell, every one, who is really responsible for the prevalance of virus activity, but, they refuse to believe and they tell everyone how great MS programs are. I really don't need anyone to tell me how great Billy Boy is. The evidence is all in front of you to see in what ever manner you may wish to observe it. As they expressed it years ago. It has not changed...Garbage In...Garbage Out.. GIGO If you use garbage as your operating system and e-mail program you will be automatically screwed by your own choice. I am still going to move to Linux. and back to Netscape. I've finally arrived home from the Nats trip--while most everyone else was driving and flying homewards, I was vegetating alongside and in my cousin's pool in VA Beach. Needed a day to recuperate after all the excitement... My views on the Nats experience this year: smaller show overall than last year and fewer OT models, but great stuff nevertheless; as you already know, our listees did well at awards time, but a number of us came just for the fun and shopping; several listees achieved list "ace" status by meeting more than 5 other listees (my total is up to 21 now); most of us had a chance to meet and talk to Sierra Scale Bob and Barry von Rosemont--Bob Wheeler of VLE Models and Bill Koster were also there selling their wares (Bob W. also entered his own build of his DFW 'Mars' monoplane in the show); Bob Laskodi did a seminar on 'Model Photography' emphasizing digital photo gear that was well-attended; Bill Powers showed a really nice diorama of a Wright glider just taking off; and our Slovakian listee, Vaso Hochmuth, made it there and back to NYC safely by bus (I doubt he'll ever be the same after three days exposure to our listee Abbott and Costello: Lance and 'Doc' Morgan). All of us did well at the vendors' tables, judging by the size of bags everyone was carrying around. I, as a person of the female persuasion, get a mighty chuckle in the vendor's area: it is really something to see hundreds of *men* shopping, pawing through piles of kits like matrons at Macy's, clutching overflowing bags of bargains, and showing off their treasures at the lunch table--all of it punctuated by the occasional hoot of joy as someone finds their personal Holy Grail. A sight that would make their wives fall down in a faint, no doubt. All who managed to join the 'eating meeting' at Chick's Oyster Bar seemed to leave well satisfied; and I'm sure many had some fine meals elsewhere (I nearly OD'd on calamari...) I have a bunch of photos of just about all the OT stuff that was in the show as well as shots of our bunch socializing--will be sending them to Matt in a day or so if he can find room for them in the server. In other words, a good time was had by all: was really great seeing some of you again and meeting others for the first time. Special mention goes to Lance and 'Doc' for their kind and generous attention to Vaso, and to John Huggins for designing and printing up a *special edition* of the list button. Thanks, guys! And so, life resumes... I don't have much to offer that most won't know already as I always used standard scratch building methods and I'm sure that the proper grown up master modelers on the list are a bit more advanced than that. In particular I have heared of a synthetic wood material which is useful for fuselages and such. A search of the web has turned up nothing of use so do any listees have experience of this? The technology for 1/48 certainly seems to be different (and superior) to the technology used for Pegasus although I can only base that observation on my (unbuilt) 1/72 Pegasus AW FK8. The Bristol M1c and the Phonix DI are both beautifully moulded without overthick trailing edges etc etc plus nicely done internal detail which forms a good basis for everything extra you might want to do. While on this subject I'm also impressed with some of Aeroclub's injection stuff (in 1/48 of course). The BE2c and BE2e are both excellent and match up pretty well to the datafile plans. They are also currently preparing a BE12 for issue and there is the promise too of a DH5. Can anyone comment on the Aeroclub RE8 which is a much earlier product? The 1/72nd scale Pegasus Taube has some nice interior framework but there's a lot of smoothing to be done to make sure some of the interior blobbing doesn't show. Also, the wings have nice detail but they're pretty thick. I think the Blue Max/Pegasus technology supports 1/48th scale much better. Peter, Is that synthetic wood the type that is used to replicate trees and stuff like that on amusement parks and such? If so, I think it's polyurethane foam, mostly if not only. I ran into some composite material that could easily be what you are referring to. It carved and sanded well. Somewhere between hard balsa and basswood. I made an engine block for a Merc D.III out of it. It was a pink color. Unfortunately I don't recall it's name or source. The fellow I made the master for said it was pretty expensive though. I'll see if I can dig up his e-mail and ask him about it. sp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Aug 2002 07:22:10 -0300 From: "Diego Fernetti" To: Subject: RE: The Question of the moment... Then you don't have to thin, you just replace. I started thinning it much before the PART set came to the market. Message-ID: <200208070822_MC3-1-9FF-65D9@compuserve.com> Last night I finished the MAC Roland D.VIa of Jasta 23 (the one on the cover of WS 37). While the model looks ok, the kit was not easy to build. I had trouble with the PE parts and the struts were not easy to work with. If I build the VIb, I will replace the struts with my strut material. All in all, a nice addition to the collection. I'm now looking at my next offering. I have fallen behind in my builds due to a very difficult ot model for a friend. A friend was over the other night as I was looking in my vast store house of models pondering my next build and with 500 kits in front of me, he could not understand why I was having a hard time. Non-builders just don't understand, do they? I think it should be something easy so I can get back in the swing of things. This layoff has been very difficult on me. Let me add my congratulations to the winners at the NATS. With the contest moving to Arizona next year, it may be something I can pull off if I plan far enough in advance. Pictures of the Roland will be up by the weekend. Message-ID: Yes, the three Cook-Up Albatrii are finished and on the shelf. Now if I can get that digital camera I was promised I could buy for my birthday, I can get some photos of them and a few others I've been meaning to send. The kits were the old Eduard Albatros D.V done as Flashar's/Hippel's red dragon, a D.III done as Jacobson's D.2090/16 with flowers, and Voss' D.III. I thought I would never finish these due to problems of the 'clottish finger trouble' type. 1. things in the cockpits kept coming adrift - after the fuselage halves were together. Everything did end up back in its place. 2. I aligned and checked and rechecked, and still managed to get the horizontal stabilizer crooked on the D.V and have to do some tricky backtracking to get it right. 3. the lower wing on the Voss aircraft came off in the middle of putting on the top wing (so much for three days' drying time) would not go back on, and broke one of the locating pins. If you look very carefully, you will see that the angle of attack of the port lower wing is just a little different, now. 4. for some reason, I got a bit of torsion in the wing strut system on D.2090. The port cabane struts will detach from the fuselage if there is any bumping of the wings. 5. a whole host of little problems with small bits. 6. Fixed the landing gear, but mis-measured the D.III legs and ended up with a rather stalky stance the first time. In fixing the fix, one leg just reached the point where it was not going to take anymore. Bought new kit to replace the gear, have started scratchbuilding replacement leg for new kit for when I feel I can face an Albatros model again. 7. My knees are sore from all of the searching for dropped parts. Just an example, when I got the last control horn (remember, out of 12 total) off of the fret, it was placed nicely in the middle of my working pad. Reached for tweezers and dropped them next to part, causing it to fly into the air. Thirty minutes and a lot of cussing later, found it. Leaned back in my chair to take a breather, and dropped it on the floor. Another fifteen minutes of searching and I had it back. Hands shaking too much to put it on - afraid to leave it sitting in case it evolved wings on its own. Finally got it in place. Multiply that throughout two Profipack frets and the aftermarket Eduard D.III PE, and you can see why it has taken me just a while to make these three. Oh, well, I've got an ot kit started as a quick build, and I'm trying to decide the next build. Got plenty of choices - thinking Aviatik-Berg D.I or Nieuport 11 (Turrene) Looking at the Nats photos with longing. Wonderful news on the success of our listmates, but hardly surprising, given the quality we can see in their galleries. Congratulations. .Mark. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Aug 2002 09:51:45 -0300 From: "Marcio Antonio Campos" To: Subject: RE: The Question of the moment... Just have to glue cabane struts, a few other pieces and the landing gear (which is already assembled waiting for the moment of meeting the fuselage). I won't rig this one. 2 - Roden Pfalz D.III, Ltn. Heldmann, Jasta 10. Fuselage assembled but not painted, top wing painted, interior ready to be glued to lower wing, and then I'll join everything with the fuselage too. 3 - Eduard Fokker Dr.I, Jacobs's second plane (no devil): top wing painted, a few small pieces and fuselage interior painted only. If I had a certain paint required, the interior would be ready. Must find this paint as soon as possible. 4 - Roden Fokker D.VII, Hans Besser's machine, the same Pedro finished. Painted fuselage interior and some small pieces only. Engine ready. I plan to use some photo-etched details in this one (seatbelts etc.) 5 - Toko Hansa Brandenburg W.29, engine ready, a few pieces painted.
