The painting guide says green overall. I wonder where the modeler got the Loz for the wings? I have seen a few references to some Ukranian D.VIIs, even a two seat version, but no mention of paint scheme outside the BR sheet. I did my Roden D.VII in Soviet colors and never paid attention to the marking scheme included for the Ukranian machine. The instructions are long gone. Anyone have a Roden Late Fokker D.VII kit? Please check the marking guide and LMK if it says loz on the wings. I'm not critizing the use of loz, just curious if I missed something. TIA sp Michael Kendix wrote: > Dave: > > It's Ukranian. I attached a sheet of masonite to the top to provide a harder surface, as the desk is made from very soft pine. Let me advice you to get a couple of articulated arm lamps to add to the desk board. A friend of mine has one of those lamps that also come with a magnifyer inside a lighted "ring" and that's very handy to look at details while painting or checking for flaws. One of those plastic containers designed for fishing hooks or tools can be useful as well to keep the small tools of our trade in an organized way. It was Len Endy who posted all the pictures of our different workbenches? I've lost the URL. That may give you some ideas. For example, I wish I could have some sort of air-venting system but the bench is on the opposite wall to the outside wall - that's how it was configured when I moved in. If you put the bench along an outside wall, maybe close to a window, you can ventilate easier if you airbrush things. Even if you have no airbrush, it gives you the option should you decide to get one. I bought an architect's table at a local Office Max. It works great since it has a hard surface making cutting easier. Gooseneck lamps also are helpful. Biggest suggestion: paint the floor white! In Skyways No.1 (the WW1 Aero spinoff) there was an article on "Battleship Planes" which showed a pair of photos of a US Navy HD-1 which they flew off of the gun turrets of battleships in 1919. It said we had 10 of them, along with 22 1 1/2 Strutters which were used in the same capacity. The only differences from the kit I could see were that the Navy a/c had an extra Vickers and what could *possibly* be the muzzle of an overwing Lewis, but which more likely is part of the hoist assembly. Malone" >to build a work bench. Anyone out there care to make >recommendations or offer opinions for design/construction? Thanks. Stu, A couple of years ago I found what to me is the ultimate model bench. It's an old watch makers bench. What's so great about it is that the work surface is 38" high, as opposed to the 30" that most desks measure out at. This puts the work a lot closer to you face, which GREATLY reduces back and neck strain. I got mine for a song, (Be-bop-a-lu-la), from a jewler who was going out business, but they can be bought new, unassembled, for not a whole lot of money. CHeck with a local jeweler supply house. THere's a watch makers bench and a jeweler's bench, which are similar, but there are differences between the two. Also, they're usually un-finished and made for cutting/drilling/filing on, have lots of very useful drawers and most of all, a catch apron to help keep those tiny parts from getting lost on the floor. If you've already got a bench, try putting it up on cinder blocks or something to raise it up a bit. I think you'll like it. I know there's one hanging in the Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. I took a few pics some years ago but Lawd knows where they are now. Best I can remember is that it's painted white, with maybe a blue cowl. Some listee who was at OTF might have some pics of it. Or go to their website.(sorry, don't have a link handy.)
