I believe the Roden says Summer of 1918. This has all red struts in the instructions. Granted this is sprayed, I don't know how well it will brush paint. Basically if gives you a very clear Future coat (no gloss). When I sprayed it, I used a little less flat base though. The coating does cover up minor blemishes and will allow different layers of paint to even out. I believe Bob does not use this as his final layer though. You may want to add more Future later to get the proper finish, depending on what type of finish you desire (gloss, semi gloss, or flat). Hope this helps, Bill Anthony. P.S. if you read any of Bobs articles on modelingmadness.com he describes the method very well. Check for example his full build article on the Spad XIII or Nieuport 17 or 23. --- Tom Gourdie wrote: > Just in case the hiccup on the list lost this I am > resubmitting. > > Tom > > -----Original Message----- > From: Tom Gourdie [mailto:T.Gourdie@ucas.ac.uk] > Sent: 17 June 2002 13:43 > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: [WWI] Future/Tamiya flatbase final finish > > > Can anyone remind me what Bob Laskodi's recipe is > for a > Future/flatbase/?alcohol mix for getting a good > final finish? It was obtained by adding to the "box" structure of the Ni.17 the necessary stringers, which were fastened to suitable plywood formers applied over the vertical fuselage members. At least, this is the arrangement which is shown by some drawings in the original Ni.27 manual. As for the colour of the wooden cockpit panels, I believe the tones shown by the colour pictures of the Belgian Ni.23 are good enough for any sesquiplane fighter by the same manufacturer. The colour of the fuel and oil tanks should be copper. At least it was so in many cases, regardless of the model, from the Ni10 to the Ni.27. In bringing this message of goodwill to you, I have to say that I have no intentions of causing you any pains. I am Ms. Sandra savimbi, daughter of the late rebel leader Jonas savimbi of Angola who was killed on the 22nd of febuary 2002 . I managed to get your contact details through "The World Business Journal", a journal of the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce in South Africa in the time I was desperately looking for a trustworthy person to assist me in this confidential business. my late father, Jonas savimbi was able to deposit a large sum of money in differnt banks in europe My father is presently death and the movement of his family members (including me) is restricted. We are forbidden to either travel abroad or out of our localities. Presently, the US$25,600,000.00 twentyfive, MILLION, six HUNDRED DOLLARS my father transfered to Netherlands is safe and is in a security firm. I am therefore soliciting your help tohave this money transfered into your account. before my government get wind of this fund .You know my father was a rebel leader in Angola before his death My reason for doing this is because it will be difficult for the Angolan government to trace my father's money to an individual's account, especially when such an individual has no relationship ,I decided to keep that money for my family use. At present the money is kept in a Security Company in nertherland. I am currently and temporarily living in Angola with my husband. Moreover the political climatein Angola at the moment being so sensitive and unstable. When you are ready i will give you the information needed before you can get access to the fund you will then proceed to Netherlands where the US$25,600,000.00 twentyfive, MILLION, six HUNDRED DOLLARS will be given to you as payment. Alternatively, you can have the fund transferred into any account that suits you. and for your co-operation and partnership, we have unanimously agreed that you will be entitled to 5.5% of the money when successfully receive it in your account. I am a Nigerian presently on attachment in United Kingdom, but at the same time the chairman of contract review panel who is interested in importation of goods into Nigeria with funds which are presently trapped in Nigeria. In order to commence this business we solicit your assistance to enable us transfer into your account the said trapped funds The source of this fund is as follows: During the last Regime here in Nigeria, some Government Officials set up companies and awarded themselves contracts which were grossly over-invoiced in various ministries. The present Government set up a contract Review Panel and we have identified a lot of inflated contract funds which are presently floating in the Central Bank of Nigeria ready for payment. However, by virtue of our position as civil servants and members of this panel, we cannot acquire this money in our names. I have therefore, been delegated as a matter of trust by my colleagues of the panel to look for an overseas partner into whose account we would transfer the sum of US$21,500,000.00 (Twenty One Million, Five Hundred Thousand United .States Dollars) Hence we are writing you this letter. We have agreed to share the money thus: 20% for the Account owner (you) 70% for us (The officials) 10% to be used in settling taxation and all local and foreign expenses. GMT+4 Temp: 3ºC Sky: Clear Wind: S-SW Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina Pilot: Capitaine D. Fernetti Observer: Sgt. W. Dueñas Récit: We took off early in the morning, bearing on the Afflitto Echagüe Aerodrome and arrived destination without incidents. We were greeted warmly by Martín and his wife Rosa, with delicious confitures and hot tea in abundance, wich were promptly consumed due to the low temperatures outside. We exchanged some small presents and started examination of everything: Martin's library is awesome and has many rare aviation books, and also some FMP books, wich are a wonderful sight (I should have bought these before!!!! Sigh!) He has some rare bound magazines from the pre-war era with enough pictorial and text material to write a full set of new datafiles on racers, experimentals and anything related with early aviation in Europe. On each and every corner and crannie of the apartment, there are kits in construction stage, neatly decked in plastic boxes, a full portable paint workshop, and also something that will make all listees breathless in the future.... (shhhh it's a secret!) I also saw Martin's 1/48 Sopwith triplane, wonderfully weathered and arranged on a small maintenace diorama, rotary engine exposed. He promised pictures for the gallery soon! Then Sgt. Dueñas mentioned the unmentionable, making a comment about the 1/48 models exhibited all over the place: "So, 1/48 must be a lot easier than 1/72, right?" That phrase almost generated iced glances and sharp comments, but good manners and sportmanship prevealed amongst gentlemen like Martin and me, so we carried on, without further ado. After a quick overview of materials, books, models and computer files, some 2 hours after arrival, we were literally dragged out of the apartment by Rosa and Wanda, to get out for a shopping sortie. Martin lead us to various hobby shops, and in one of them I was almost buried by an avalanche of kit boxes. It was an interesting experience, but when you start to choke in plastic, the fun gets somewhat spoiled. After that we visited a bookshop, where I got a WW1 submarine book for cheap. Lots of crazy diorama ideas started boiling in my mind from then on. Finally, we were invited by the Afflittos to a wonderful lunch in a fancy restaurant, were the local intelligentzia gather and mingle. W. and me departed a few hours later, after having a most wonderful saturday in campany of our list friend and his wife! Thanks again Martin and Rosa! I realize now, that if I had painted the bottum wing, then attached the middle wing, I would have been able to produce the nice streaking pattern. I'm very impressed to see how excellent results gets Ken with his paintbrush. The polished cowl of the triplane and the subtle change of colour in the lattice work of the fuselage shows the touch of a master. Changing the subject, I guess that Crisdomi Ciano's name is mispelled, and that his true name must be Cris (standing for Cristian or Cristina?) with Domiciano as family name. This reminds me of the first scale model (flying, free flight model) built by a guy I know. It was a Bristol Brownie and he showed up proud as could be. Knowing that I'm kind of a scale nut he wanted my opinion. Because he was such a nice guy I ddn't know what to say. So, I said, "Why did you make the tail square? The Brownie had a oval-shape tail." His reply, "Yeah, but it seemed so hard to make it that way." So I said, "Are you going to add the landing gear later?" to which he replied, "Heck no, I want it to fly good." In short, everyone's got their own level of 'dicta ira' I guess :-) Cheers --- Larry ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 4478 **********************
