Sierra Scale kits are among the best vacuform kits out there. I haven't seen this kit, but I expect you will be pleased with the kit. Also, for those of you looking for 1/48 pilot figures, there's a nice selection at http://www.quarter-kit.com/ including a figure of Werner Voss (with instructions on his cowl color, maybe? :-) Work your way through some irritating click boxes to the catalog page and hit "Figurines/Aircraft WWI". These are unfamiliar to me but they look pretty nice; if anyone has seen them, I'd like an opinion on their quality. Update on the weekend build of the Ardpol Hannover CL.V: not progressing with lightening speed. Last night I got a new instrument panel built, cleaned up and modified the cockpit areas, made the gas tank wider to allow for a filler tube and gauge--AMS is still virulent. Message-ID: <3D0B62CA.6979.132CF8B@localhost> I've made it to the decalling stage of my 1/72 Eastern Express Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter, and I've got trouble..... I used my usual technique: The model was painted with Pollyscale acrylics, which have been dry for a couple of weeks now. I then brushed on a coat of future, to act as a glosscote. The next night, I applied some of the decals. I use future as a setting solution-- I panit the area about to receive the decal with some future, then lay the decal in the wet future. Usually, when I come back and check the next morning, the decal has snugged down nicely. On my strutter, most of the decals have settled nicely. The bottom wing roundels however, have not. After they had dried, they each had a couple of ridges where they hadn't settled down. Usually an application of Micro-Sol will take care of this. I applied the Micorsol, and left the decals over night. When I checked the next night, the decals had not only not settled down, but now I had spiderweb pattern ridges all over the decals. Subsequent applications of microsol have not made the problem and better (or worse). The roundels each have a couple of small sunburst or spider web shaped patterns of ridges in them. What do I do now? I've tried putting tiny pinholes in the ridges, to help the setting solution get underneath them, to no avail. Some of the little sunnbursts are only about 5 mm in diameter-- tryng to slice the ridges with a sharp X-acto blade would be hard to do accurately. The only other option I can think of is to sand the ridges off and try to touch up any gaps with a dab of paint. Most of the decal is well set in the future, so I think removing it may be a challenge. I'm afraid I'll end up having to repaint as well.... -TIA for any help or advice you can give me.... -Bill ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2002 15:43:12 -0500 From: "Matt Bittner" To: "wwi@wwi-models.org" Subject: 12 Squared (was Re: re: Stuff to buy & Hannover update) Message-ID: On Sat, 15 Jun 2002 15:31:18 -0400 (EDT), Fr. If you're talking about the resin one, I haven't built it but I've compared it with the other three (Omega and Amodel). Eventually there will be a side-by-side with all three (once I get off my butt and finish mine - the other two are done ). While the Roseplane has a lot more finesse, the Amodel builds a little better. The center struts and main landing gear struts are part of the "exhaust channels" on the side of the aircraft. Very sturdy when built (even when the "exhaust channels" are thinned, like I did). However, just because of that don't pass up the Roseplane kit. I bet coupling it with the Part p/e set (which is art in itself) you could make an awesome kit. IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc... Has Berthold ever flown a late model DVII with the fuselage painted red and blue or is it that he only had an early model DVII red/CDL green streaks/blue like the one in the Roden DVII Early kit (that matches Bob P profile on his CD)? A swipe or two will remove splattered acryl paint from a futured surface. Once the Future softens you can make a mess. Let it dry, buff it with a very fine grit polishing pad and re-Future. I apply decals to Futured surfaces and then use Sol to get it all suckered down before sealing the decal with Future. sp ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 4475 **********************
