Hmmmm... PE louvres? ...does they seem of the right size for, let's say... a
Spad?

What you get is two trapezoidal-shaped pieces - one each for the D.III and
D.IV. Look at the Part web site to see them and let me know if they're
right.

Michael!
Unfortunately they aren't useful for spads... well, I have to keep the
Academy as it is.

I have the Toko SW kit, the Part Detai set, a Hawkeye resin conversion
kit and a Czechmaster resin kit out of which I want to make a D.III and
a D.IV.
I think the Hawkeye wing is beautiful, (mine came un-warped.), and I'd
like to do it in CDL as it is so thin. The problem is that the Prototype
which had CDL wings is not possible to make out of what I have without
extensive mods that I'm not going to get into. Does anyone know of an
early D.III that had CDL wings?

Oh and in reply to an earlier mail, I think your Spad looks great,
and I don't think you will screw it up. The turtleback is one of
the trickiest parts of a Spad, and thats finished, plain sailing
from now. Then there is a certain Nieuport 28 to finish too:-)

The Nieuport 28 stringered rear fuselage has been filled as the Spad
turtledeck and the facets will be sanded flat as the spad sides.

Diego!
Get the metal foil from wine bottle. Foil should be very soft, and not too
thin. Then make louvres in it with clock-screwdriver small enough. I've
tried and it works. But you have to get really good foil, thick and very
soft.
Good luck!

Original idea comes from Jacek Sznajder, designer of majority of Choroszy
models. But Jace had that screwdriver sharpened and made louvres in
polystyrene.
Idea of using wime foil is my own :-)
- And screwdriver should be sharp too, in order not to tear foil, but you'll
see all when you try.

The Datafile is very vauge on the EVI, changes appear to be a longer fuselage
(no length given)& different rudder shape. The Datafile has three photos of the
Austrian A10 (unarmed EVI) and a photo on what may be a German EVI, with hand
painted lozenge.
Dimensions for the EII are:
Length 6.45m, span 10.20m, height 2.55m

Datafile reference to changes from EII to EVI: "Visible changes are the
modified rudder shape, the lengthened fuselage, and the double (instead of
triple) wing cables."
It seems to me that the wingspan is shorter on the EII as well. I can't
really confirm that as the Datafile doesn't have a 3V of the EVI but it's
clearly the case that the EV has a greater wingspan than does the EII.
Unfortunately, other than a couple photos, there's not a lot of info on the
EVI in the datafile.

Candice, you have produced another fine piece of art, simple beautiful. I
love the color and decal choice.

Very pretty. Did you or Copper State do anything to provide strengthening to the wings? It's always my greatest worry with resin wing kits. and especially here with relatively long wings and white metal struts.
Also, I'm wondering idly, given the type of kit, the way the exhaust and engine are sort of woven in the cabane struts, and the touchiness of getting the angle of attack the same upper and lower wings - if you were to do another, might an approach be to put the cabanes and engine in, put the upper wing on, then hang the lower wing in place off of that? Since you are the expert on building the kit, and have done such a beautiful job, your insight and suggestions are sought.
Again, very nice model of a very important if underappreciated plane.
.Mark.

No, I'm not off in Timbuktu or other strange places. Just spending some
time in lurk mode and getting more and more depressed every time someone
posts photos of their newest. Jeez, lately youse guys have been outdoing
each other: between Doc Morgan's microscopically perfect nacelle and
Plesha's Lohner fuse interior and Sanjeev's 2cm Lewis gun, you all are
just leapfrogging into the terminal AMS ward. But keep up the good
work--it inspires the rest of us peons to hire small children to handle
the PE parts for us.
Many of you remember my 'summer overstock sale' of last year; well, more
kits have been added to my stash so some others are ready to move on to
someone else's closet. Instead of cluttering the list this year with all
my excess kits (in line with Allan's 3K max edict) I've decided to email
the list to anyone who wants it. So, this is what we'll do: if you want
to get the sale list, send me your email address off-list between now
and June 15. At high noon, US Eastern Standard Time, on Sat, June 15, I
will mail the list to everyone at the same time. Then I promise to sit
at my computer for *two hours* to receive purchase requests--first email
arrive, first sold. Contact me off-list for more info (except the sale
list :-)
Now to the subject heading. I'll be going to the Nats (hopefully to see
some of these recently-posted beauties in the flesh) and I'd like to
make a week's vacation out of it. The hotel/motel prices are prohibitive
for a single person and I'd rather not stay with my cousin again. There
are loads of rental houses/cottages/condos available in the VAB
vicinity. I've been looking at some rental agencies suggested by my
cousin, and it seems I could get a place for between $300 and $400 per
person for the week of July 28--depends on how many of you would want to
sign on and what the sleeping arrangements would be. The catch is that
the places are two or three houses from the beach (not right on it) and
they are down the coast a bit (no, not in North Carolina...). The
convention center is on 22nd Street; the street numbers get higher as
you head south; most of the places I've seen are between 55th St and
80th St--so the commute to the Pavilion is a bit farther, but not
unreasonable. Contact me off-list in the *next week* if you are
interested in sharing accomodations--bring your significant other along
or tell him/her that I'm the house mother.
Oh yeah, I also have a place picked out for the 'List Dinner Bash'--will
post more info later.
Karen
