There is a section of built up airliner display models and a larger section for computer flight simulators, but over 2/3rds the shop is given over to books, magazines and kits. They stock Pegasus, Blue Max, Sierra, Roden, Eduard, and most of the other OT producers except Copper State, plus the usual ot suspects. They often have out of production stuff too (eg. got a BM Spad VII recently,). Mind you, I seem to have missed the orginal question, so my apologies if this is irrelevant. I didn't find much of anything historically accurate. Did you know the Red Baron was shot down in an Albatros? Me neither! The only redeeming quality of the book was the section that was written by an anonymous pilot. Fictional or not, I felt it gave a realistic feel to what the front must have been like for these pilots. My overall impression was one of disgust. This book contains so much BS. It belongs in the historical fiction genre instead of the WWI History section of the book store. Later! Having checked my references at home, I can confirm the 150hp Clerget. According to the handbook issued by Gwynnes Ltd. the 9BF of 1917 is 150hp while the 9B is 130hp. Difference is in stroke (172 vs 160mm). Otherwise it is the same handbook for both engines. Since these are the makers figures, I consider them as official, but the correct output might be more or less if on a dynamometer. (Probably less) Scans of the relevant page(s) can be provided. The Nieuport 25 was not used for training as it was only produced in very limited numbers, however the Russians seem to have used something that they called a Nieuport 25, but it may have been yet another local modification (such as a 24 with a different engine). The training machines were primarily the 10 and 12 2 seaters and 17/21/23 single seaters. The 10 was the 18m, 12 the 23m and the rest were 15m Nieuports according to the nomenclature in use at the schools. The official Nieuport designations were largely unknown to the aircrew and it is only within the last few years that they have been positively identified. -- Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 21:05:34 EDT From: BStett3770@aol.com To: wwi@mustang.sr.unh.edu Subject: Roseplane New Kit Message-ID: <143.e45e014.2a0c76de@aol.com> Hi Gang Our Newest Roseplane kit just released. 1/72 Resin Complete kit with decals Nieuport Triplane #1 check it out at www.swiftsite.com/rosemonthobby Keep Modeling Barry Rosemont Hobby www.swiftsite.com/rosemonthobby Rosemont Hobby 4317 Howertown Road Northampton, Pa. 18067 Fax / Phone 610 502 1137 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 21:22:40 -0400 From: John_Impenna@hyperion.com To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Jasta Raben airfields Message-ID: Hi Marcio, Thanks so much!!!! It isn't very visible in the pics, but I underpainted most of MvR's plane with a CDL color, and the metal parts were underpainted in a Fokker Dark Green, so there is a subtle color variation in the finish. I used a Floquil acrylic model railroad color, I think it was 'Soo Line red'. I figure it was a good choice as it has a vermilion cast to it. The pics that are there of it really do no justice to the actual - I'll take some better ones and Alan can replace the ones I posted so that it will stand out better. I figured that I agreed with the general List consensus that 425/17 wasn't streaked like a factory finish. I can't see any in the pics that I have. Accurate or not, I liked the kit so much that I ordered two more as I have the Blue Rider Jasta 11&27 sheet. The underwing fabric and uppers are obviously two different types, and there are seams at the leading edges and trailing edges on the wings. I would figure that since the tapes were doped on to cover the stitching or nailing that attached the fabric onto the ribs. It shouldn't have been too difficult to apply different tapes for the upper and lower sides of a wing with whatever color tapes that were available. Here's a little poser: We all have seen the 'standard' blue tapes on the uppers and pinks (salmons?) on the unders, we have seen all-pink and all-blue jobs. We have seen lozenge-fabric tapes too. But has anyone seen a lozenge-fabric rib-taped aircraft that had either all-upper or all-lower tape jobs? Seems like it would make sense if it was all that they had on hand. Later!
