My A-Model SPAD (I have the A-2) has beautifully detailed ribs, no flash and exquisitely molding on even the finest of parts. Just joking! The underside flying surfaces are as smooth as a billiard ball and the rest of the kit has plenty of flash to occupy you for many evenings - very good value in terms of modeling time/dollar, though not as good value as an ICM Ilya Mourametz. It's a short run kit that costs a damn sight less than some other short run companies' products. Use two close together parallel scored lines with an Exacto blade to do the ribs on the underside - same as a vac. Of course, I'm not building this any time soon but I am glad I have it. There is detail on mine, but it is soft. I'm pretty sure (and betting on) that with the right washes and drybrushing it will be enough. Granted, the fuselage fabric detail on mine is too soft to notice, hence me replacing the stringer detail with a piece of "embossed" plastic. FWIW, I don't believe Rimell *at all* on his review. He compared it with *his drawings* which are *not* correct. Trust me, I've been through this already. :-) Yes, combine the kit with the awesome Part set, and you have a true winner. There is work there, but the end result will be awesome. I plan on using the Part set not only with the Amodel SA.4 I want, but also the Rosemont *and* Omega SPADs I have. Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.0.20020330175825.00a17180@pop.xs4all.nl> Hi again everyone, First a happy Easter to those who celebrate it. Can anyone out there tell me where I might find info on the control panel for the Gotha GIII? I'm making Eric's 1/48th kit, and as far as I can tell the diagrams included and the resin panel are for a GIV or V. Normally I'd just go with this, especially as Part seem to have used the same pattern for both their II/III and IV detail sets from what I can see on their web page. But I've seen a photo in Windsock (part of their review of the Roden kit) that although lacking in most details seems to differ completely as far as what is shown. All the detail shots in the Gotha Datafile special are of later models. I have the old Profile and Scale Models articles, and they don't help either. I'd be just as happy to learn that it's invisible on the completed model (but doné tell anyone else that). Can anyone help? Twiddling my thumbs hopefully, Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Mar 2002 11:51:14 -0600 From: "Thomas Solinski" To: Subject: Re: ot paint studies (WWII) Message-ID: <001001c1d813$802d1160$9eb40c44@ok.cox.net> Rory the IPMS color cross reference guide does most of the work on the tamiya colors for you HTH Tom S ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rory Goodwin" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2002 10:27 AM Subject: [WWI] ot paint studies (WWII) > I'm attempting to sort out available enamel equivalents for Tamiya IJA/N > and some Aeromaster RLM colors. According to the Americal Gryphon, the undersurfaces of the wings MAY HAVE BEEN painted light blue at the factory. This is also confirmed by the 1/28 Revell Germany kit, and a drawing from Dan San Abbott. But after searching through both Fokker D.VII anthologies & Datafile #9, there is no mention of any OAW fokkers with the light blue undersurfaces. Does anyone have any source that confirms the blue undersurfaces? and would the blue be painted over 4/c undersurface lozenge? Would the rib tapes on the upper surface 4/c lozenge be light blue?
