Did we get to an answer?? Message-ID: <3C8AFFAF.51B57967@earthlink.net> Apologies if someone else answered this. Although it looks as if the one in the photo *might* be aluminum-doped [discourse on lighting effects of desert sun here], I'm guessing that since these were unintentially supplied by the Russians, they may have been Russian-built, and therefor CDL or Dux grey depending on whether you like Durkota or Kulikov. The aluminum-doped French-built machines apparently had incrementally better performance and were therefore *probably* retained by the Russians for service on the Eastern Front rather than supplied to other theaters of lesser impotance...Anyway, the idea of a Russian-built CDL Nie. 17 with Turkish markings appeals to me, so I'm going with it. Message-ID: <003001c1c815$5e5e6ec0$fe78a8c0@FRITZweb> Ladies and Gentlemen, this weekend the Schleissheim branch of the Deutsches Museum holds its annual Model Show. WWI, as usual, is presented only by two participants, the IGL ( a loosely connnected interest group, researching Bavarian Aviation. Yours truly is making color drawings for their publication, the Propellerblatt), the other a lonely modelbuilder, who shows 1/72 Revells. Yesterday I joined the IGL stand and after the show I was allowed by museum staff to make interior pics of the Halberstadt Cl IV ( ' But don't climb into!' I wondered if he could read my mind...) Therefore I can offer three dicicam pic sets a) Halberstadt set, incl. Cockpit, lozenge details, prop details etc. b) Fokker D VII set , no cockpit, because it is faired over with plexiglas, but other details, engine etc. c) model show details, incl. IGL-modeller Jens Lehmann's models. J.L. is living in Switzerland and is one of the greatest WWI modelbuilders in Europe. You have to see his 'Stropp' ! I have to reduze the file-size of the pics, all in all there are ca. 50 pics. Give my a short notice, if interested in a set on two or three. Yours, Hans P.S. I will prepare sets of Rumpler Cl IV, Halberstadt cockpit, and Fokker D VII ( incl. interesting bio of it) for the WWI page, of course. Allan, watch the disk space! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Mar 2002 15:27:01 +0200 From: Jan Vihonen To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Munich Model Show ; Halberstadt cockpit! Some Nie.16 han a headrest. Nie.16 had heavier wing loading than the Nie.11 and therefore the manoeuvrable of the 16 are not as goog as of the 11. All 16's had the headrest, a reinforced forward fuselage for the heavier engine (not always visible) and the cowling's opening on the front was a larger diameter. In addition, many Nie 11's had a flat face on the cowling (but not all...), while the face on the 16 cowl was tapered so from the side they look somewhat like this (minus the lip at the bottom of the cowl): (this is a feature most drawings miss) Early N.11 Late N.11 N.16 ______ _____ ______ | | / | / | | | / | /_ | |_ | /_ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Mike Fl.
