This is a wonderful kit as far as I tell withot building it. Some heavy detail, but otherwise Ardpol quality resin with very thin trailing edges anf very good rib details. Like Ardpol they even have location pins/holes (that line up) on major components. A large PE sheet does a complete interior and loads of details for the outside. Includes a fine Parabellum with 3 ammo cans, harness and cushions for the seat and observers bench, that sort of stuff. Also a film with 3 instruments on for the PE control panel.Sorry to waste bandwidth with the description but I was blown away by this one (and although I prefer PC10 allied stuff, I confess to a weak spot for Albatrosses) Decal sheet is just national markings (no serials). The only downsides are a large number of pinholes (although none on my sample break the surface- I will puncture the tops of the larger ones near joints and flood with thin CA to fill, then leave for a very long time. There's one in the top wing that will need a plastic disc in to be sure) and the price. We've gone from guilders to euros here, and on my way to the checkout I forgot that, so the rather nice 39 guilders (just over 10 quid, sterling) turned out to be just over twice as much. But by that time I'd got too used to the idea that it was mine and couldn't put it back. I think it was worth the money anyway (especially when considered that the Ardpol DH9 gost me 95 guilders, or nearly 30 pounds - I now order their kits from Aeroclub since even with postage it works out half that price. I just finished the Omega Farman F30, Eduard Alb Dr1 and a Phoenix vac of the Albatros C1. Thanks to all who answered my queries on the former, in particular Steve Perry. nb Blue Max DH2, ot (just) Hit Kit Schreck,CM DH5 and Ardpol DH9. Oh, and I'm still working on the DH1a......... And Eric's Gotha. nu Glencoe and Blue Max Nie 28, then the big Revell Spad (as Baracca's mount). And those sprues look promising. The kit obvioulsy is the same as the later D II kit (you can see the different struts. Three center sections - an early one witout radiator, one with the German radiator, one for the AH radiator. Different cowling sections for the German and Austro-Hungarian versions as well. There磗 also a later style fin and rudder, so that this sprue might also come with the Albatros D III (for the OAW variant). However, I think one sprue is missing in the pic磗: There is no engine and no cockpit, and the side radiators are also missing. Oh yes: Interesting decal sheet, and the cover shows the Prinz Friedrich-Karl aircraft we are just discussing. *They* show it overall mid green, but with the wrong header tank (no criticism intended). On another matter, the next in the D VII series, a late Albtros build Fokker D VII. New fuselage and radiator, as well as Decals. The cover shows von Greim磗 nice D VII. The decals also have Rosenstein磗 and Frodien磗 Jasta 40 aircraft that are also on my sheet-. However, it should be noted that these aircraft both were *no* late series Albatros aircraft - the decals should be useful nonetheless.... Due to time restrictions I was not able to give you a full research. But it's roughly comparable to 'Mercedes', 'Mercedes-Benz' , Daimler-Benz, Daimler-Chrysler. Messr. Benz and Daimler never met. I was most impressed by the MAC Fokker D.VII on Brent's Roll Model's site. I'm not complaining about the other manufacturers' efforts (Roden, Revell etc.) but it seems to me that despite the higher price, you get a decent deal with the MAC. The photoetch seems OK for the frame etc and the molding looks a bit cleaner than the competitors'. Also, the decals look decent and they give you lozenge rib tapes (how humane). The issue of whether 4-colour lozenge goes with the Albatros Works version is still a question REQUIRING AN ANSWER PLEASE:) - I do not have any of the Datfiles for the D.VII. It's my observation that MAC kits have progressed to the point where they are almost at the Eduard/Hasegawa level. Yes, I think Eduard's D.V's are as good as the 3 Hasegawa kits I've built (Ki-44, Ki-61, A6M2 Type 21) and the MAC Ph鰊ix DI and D.II are close. No locating pins and a bit more flash (hardly any though). So, given there is less need for aftermarket photetch with the MAC kits, they aren't that much more expensive. For those who haven't heard, Princess Margaret passed away this morning. For those looking over the Roden site, be sure to check out the photogallery. New images include a Soviet D.VII and the PKZ-2. Neat! FWIW, from the few photos I have seen of the Soviet squadron that flew the D.VIIs, Roden has the rudder markings right, while Blue Rider - I don't think - does. A couple of photos definitely shows what appear to be a bunch of grapes, which Roden has captured. There is one photo (that shows Kozhevnikov's machine) where it's extremely difficult to tell the grape "demarcation". And, for those curious, I'm still researching Kozhevnikov, but it's difficult finding information. Has anyone found anything broken on the new IM stuff I uploaded last night? After finger-printing, too-large-decals, not-oversprayed-leading-edges, odd-problems-during-spray-job and CA-cracking-white-spirit-washing I had the 'marriage' the night before. This means the upper wing was clued on struts etc. The thing was complete, sans rigging. Ha! I was proud. Now, after over 24 hours drying time I started to rig it. I wrapped the fuselage with kitchen dowel to avoid any finger-printing-adventure. For a short moment I hold it on the top wing through this process. Yes, you guess it. Luckily the struts remains unbroken. The undercarriage lost the axle, but it can be repaired. Prop and guns came loose, but can be fixed again. Some small paint jobs will be necessary, but nothing real serious. But, really, when the fuselage/ lowerwing unit fell away from my fingers and banged on the desk, I was nearly to weep. It will probably turn the film black. Check with your Feng Shui advisor that the model board is properly aligned. If all else fails have the model excorcised. cheers Peter L ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2002 19:46:08 +0100 From: "Gaston Graf" To: Subject: Re: Bad Karma Albatros Message-ID: > If > all else fails > have the model excorcised. That means to carefully put it on the floor and jump with two feet onto it until nothing is left of it anymore but its own silhouette embossed in the carpet or wood. In case you got tiles on the floor you must jump a bit harder to emboss it. Alternatively you can do what I did as I was a boy - put one of these medium size red fireworks crackers into the cockpit, light up its fuse and let it dive down from the 3rd floor of a building. Additionally you can apply some patches of glue to the cowling and light it up too so it will go down in flames like a "real" fighter. The 1/72 Me109 from Matchbox that I excorcised that way as a 13 year old had a beautiful last flight. Right after the impact in the snow it exploded. And if you don't like to play with fire you can always shoot it up with an airgun or with your bow ;o). have fun Gasterix www.jastaboelcke.de ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2002 13:51:27 EST From: KnnthS@aol.com To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Bad Karma Albatros Message-ID: <4f.185b4835.2996c9af@aol.com> Hans: << I love my hobby. I got frusterated with an ot Hustler-thingie at age 9 when the half a tube of cement I had used on the spindly U/C legs melted them and it kept kneeling down. I "ORDERED" it to assemble itself by the count of 10. It didn't, so I threw it into the wall. It was a pretty robust kit, except for the U/C, and not much damage resulted. Then I jumped on it ;-) sp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2002 20:10:21 -0000 From: "Pedro Soares" To: Subject: Re: Bad Karma Albatros Message-ID: <004b01c1b1a5$cd304f20$d87116d5@netcabo.pt> .> > I love my hobby.
