That's one of the most famous pre-revolution steel works in Russia. Famous for it's cannons. The second word. I cannot figure out that n and p thing, but otherwise it resembles word zavod, or factory. Which makes sense. The replica in the Shuttleworth collection is the aircraft flown by "Sir Percy", the villain played by Terry-Thomas in the "Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (VHS available from Amazon). WWI AERO sells Air Commodore Allen Wheeler's "Building Aeroplanes for "Those Magnificent Men" which records the construction and filming of the aircraft in the movie and "The Brooklands Story", A.V.Roe & Company 1910/11, Ian Turney-White built a 50% scale flying model patterned after the Shuttleworth aircraft. Click on "featured aircraft" at: http://members.lycos.co.uk/LMASite/ There's a good in-flight photo at: http://www.thestewarts.greatxcape.net/pages/avro_triplane_9.htm Another static display photo is at: http://home.clara.net/kpanter/pictures.htm The best references I have found to date are two sets of "walk around" type color photos taken of the Shuttleworth replica. The Shuttleworth museum referred me to Mr. David Boddington, "Ivycrest" The Avenue, Wellingborough, Northants, NN8 4ET, UK. I purchased 30 6x4 and 7x5-inch photos from him. The second set of photos was purchased from Bob Banka's Aircraft Documentation and Resource Guide. Find at: http://www.bobsairdoc.com/ For dimensions, I'm using about four pages of materials covering the four triplane models from a book on Avro aircraft. Don't know the title. I believe I got it from Hans Trauner. If it wasn't Hans, please forgive me whoever you are. I also got some kit plans from Tom Solinski which I enlarged to 1:12 but I don't think they will be of much use on the Inpact kit. :-) Sorry about the length of this response. . . proves you should be careful about what you ask for. My present MB/Computer will handle 98 and up and it has ME installed from the full disk program. Maybe one of my aquaintances has full 98 on CD. My computer started out as a Win 98, top of the line, computer. With an Intel Celeron 400 CPU. It will handle a Pentium III 800. It already has 378 mb of Ram and 2 Firewire 40Gig HDs plus the small one that is the Start up HD with 10Gigs. Two 5 Gig partitions. (I also have a 60 Gig HD that has never been installed. It can be used with a Firewire converter) I also have on hand two 30 Gig/7200 Ultra DMA that I am not using at present. (I got them and the 60 for my next computer.) (I have been saving for a new 1.6 Athlon and new M/B set up.New Case and all.) So you see it is not a matter of money. I just did not know why the RB 3D would not work well. The original RB worked great. Now I know. It is the Glide feature that was messing with my head. I thought it was compatible with what I had. My RB 3D box says it was Glide compatible, but, it does not say it was required... I have a Logitech and I did not get the "feedback type", I di mot care for that feeling. I just put in better springs and it feels more like air pressure on the stick and I like that. It is just a little harder to move than it was before. The rudder moves about right with the control but it is a bit odd to do it by hand. I have both of the newer Combat Flight sims but I just do not like Microsoft. They seem to be "twitchy" and move in jerks sometimes instead of real smooth. I was never a "jerky" pilot it is to hard on the plane. (I have had two (real) emergency landings and even then it was smooth and slick all the way. One was in an Alfalfa field and the other on a sandy beach along the shore of Lake Michigan.) I have available (never used) a Visiontek Geforce 2MX400 w/64MB AGP. It will support Open GL ICD, Direct X, but I never asked about Glide. It will work with my present TYAN Tsunami M/board. So I do thank you for the assist. It may be a while before I get that up and running but I wll check on a VooDoo 3-5000 card starting now.. Lee M. I picked up the G.III & the Dolphin as well as several Datafiles to add to the ever increasing hoard. Was also able to drool over the built up quarter-scale WWI models over at the Proctor Booth. Someday I WILL build that Nie.28 I couldn't resist at the Expo Swap meet a couple of years back. OT aircraft entered for judging or display included a quarter scale Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter, a Proctor Nie.28, and quarter scale Sommer monoplane 1912 being the standouts. All in all a great inspiration to get back to modeling and glad to be back! Thanks for all the great tips and advice served up daily by all of you contributing list members. Browsing the old Cleveland plans, it's gonna take a lot of balsa dust to sop up all the drool. Somebody PLEASE tell me why one of those 1/4 scale working rotary engines could never be used to power a 1/4 scale DH.2. Some half convincing nonsense about scale sise and power to weight ratios would do. I simply MUST be disabused of this notion or my "When I win the Lottery" fantasys will dwell on this for the next 6 months. sp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2002 14:37:31 +1000 From: Neil.Eddy@dhs.vic.gov.au To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: RE: Yet another paint question Message-ID: Shane says: >I'm at McArthur River Mine, 100km from the Gulf of >Carpentaria >Temperature here is - 48C in the *shade* Wot! - no luxurious swimmin'? - Croc's got you scared? >I spent last night in a room in the MGM Casino in Darwin, MGM Casino? - Next stop Monte Carlo perhaps - sounds rough up there! >This place is near enough to hell, I won't be staying to sightsee Wot about the world's largest stubby then? not exciting enough for you? - Better watch out Shane, they'll send you to Sydney next.... ;-) All the Best Neil E ********************************************************************** The information contained in this e-mail is confidential and is intended only for the use of the addressee(s).
