I've tried about 4 different copiers that have come through the office and every one has stretched the copy along the axis of movement along the drum. the amount of distortion has varied - but it has always been discernable - and never IMHO acceptable. Don't recall the brands off hand. But Shane's multi-directional copying trick sounds like a good way to check. I suggest you use it - just to be safe ;-) These days - if i want to enlarge something I send it to the blueprint room at work. They can plot out to just about any size you could want without distortion. I brush it on most of the time and I just put hand soap on the brush and rinse under hot water. With the airbrush, I run it under the hot tap and then spray isopropyl alcohol through it and clean up with alcohol. For you maybe. But I'm not so accurate (and don't *care*) I figure that if I build a model with a 100.5mm wingspan instead of a 100mm wingspan *I* won't see it, the *judges* won't see it, my friends (and enemies) won't see it, and in any case it'll be within the accuracy with which the original measurements were taken. And for those of you in doubt of my slipshod ways, well hell, I'd overlook even TWO millimetres on a model that size SO THERE!! > Actually, I'm NEVER rude...sometimes maybe a little > grumpy...or "less than joyful". It is just over three hours to go from Chicago to Indy, then maybe two hours to Dayton. I'm in Indy and have driven to Chicago a hundred times, and to Dayton twenty times so I feel pretty comfortable that you could do it in a one day swing. You leave Chicago in the morning, get to Dayton a little over five hours later, and go thru the museum for two to three hours, and get home six hours later, (giving you an hour for dinner on the road). Not sure if you're doing anything wrong. I have to have my magnifier about 4-6 ins away from the work to get the focus right. However, it is an anglepoise lamp with the head fully articulated so it is quite easy to have the lamp angled from the left while the paintbrush is angled away to the right held in my right hand. So the handle of the brush sticks out to the right of the lamp and only the point is under the lamp. The only problem I have had is forgetting that I have the magnifier in front of my eyes so I move the in progress work and thump it into the lamp. But no serious damage thus far. It's nice to see these (mostly) well known colour schemes re-done properly, I have sort of believed in the old ones in the Profile, without thinking of the effect of ortho-film. Lots of wonderful pics, though one thing struck me, when there are so many photos of AEF single-seat Spads, where have the 2-seaters gone? At least one AEF squadron had them, yet all we see are a few shots of Billy Mitchells Spad 16. Another interesting thing was the painting instructions for AEF Spads, said the the radiator cowling AND shutters should painted in flight colours, is this anything that has been noted on profiles or models, I've certainly never thought of it before. /Neil C. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 09:50:28 +0000 From: xtv16@dial.pipex.com To: Subject: Aviation Museums was Dayton, Chicago etc etc Message-ID: <1012384228.3c57c1e4995a6@netmail.pipex.net> Quoting Bob Pearson : > Hmmm, a quick look at WWI Survivors lists 13 original aircraft at each > of > the RAF Museum, NAM, USAFM and NASM. . however the Musee' L'Air has 21, > while the one in Belgium has 14. Thanks Neil, I do have a few booboos in the profiles though. .. wrong propellor on all of them, and my conjectural top view of Chamber's SPAD is most likely wrong with the blue on the leading edge ... but the photos I was working from sort of look like it could be there. There will be more of them in the next issue. I have also redone the b/w ones that Greg had included, but not in time to get them into WS. I'll throw myself on that when I get home. I did notice that you had two shades of blue on the easter egg, was that deliberate? /Neil C. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 07:03:21 -0300 From: "Diego Fernetti" To: Subject: RE: I know this isnt OT but what a build..
