Alberto has some new stunning work (as usual). I really like the Biff (which is actually old work), it shows what can be done with the old Airfix kit. However, Alberto's high standards are challenged by Neil C. Neil, your interiors are fantastic - great works of art. Charlie has a very nice interpretation of the Gavia Scout and some very helpful building hints. Finally Marc has some nice DrIs (I haven't seen the first version of Voss' plane before). The streaking has worked well, although the faint of heart should beware that Marc is ready to start up a new Voss cowl thread - he's gone for a red cowl on the latest version...... Good work all, thanks for sharing. One of the >things that attracts me to early aviation is the spirit of innovation, >experiment, accident, and the unknown which fuelled the whole process. >Did Ltn Dons survive as a pilot? I hope he did. Premierløitnant Hans Fleischer Dons returned to serve onboard his submarine before recieving a proper pilots license. He continued in the Norwegian Navy, serving on different vessels and also as attache in Washington and London until his death from natural causes in 1940. His first flight over Norway was definitely celebrated in best naval tradition. One of the next flights was made over a fortress in order to bombard its army garrison with oranges - the Army then decided to order its own aircraft. They discovered how easy it was to spot a dived submarine from an aircraft, and used submarines to lift floatplanes out of the water to service them. The submarine he served on (A-1 "Kobben") was delivered from Germaniawerft in Kiel in 1909, its conning tower is now preserved in Horten. Before WW1m Norwegian submarines were not allowed to dive without the Navy crane barge was nearby and under steam in case they needed assistance to resurface. For those who think of Hans Fleischer Dons as a German name, many of the families from which Norwegian officers were recruited originated from Schleswig-Holstein when Norway was considered an unruly Danish province. It was rather convenient just after WW1 when the Norwegian Navy sent a delegation to procure technology and aircraft parts from Germany without the Allied control comission being aware of it. They did not react on Ltns. Lützow-Holm, Riiser-Larsen and Schreiner visiting Travemünde and other German bases in 1919. Still I think that they only sell the Pegasus W29 by mail order. Anyway, they list it on their site under "special offers" for 4.99 pounds. So if you won't mind asking them if they have it at the Colingdale shop for the same price, I'd really appreciate it. I want to make a good W29, because I do like the looks of it, and I'm planning on using the MPM fuselage with some Toko details and floats and if possible the Pegasus wings, because they are the only ones with the correct "bend" of the outer portion. While in London, be sure to browse through the reamindered and second hand book shops at Charing Cross, Last time I was there (Summer last year) I managed to buy the Crowood books on Sopwith and RAE aircraft for half the price, along with some other good and interesting OT stuff.
