First, the CMK engine is not really an Oberursel since it indicates that the pushrods go on the front. In reality the engine can be used as an Allied Clerget since they have drilled two pushrod holes for each cylinder in the front and the cylinder heads more resemble a Clerget than Oberursel. That being said, the CMK can easily be modified to an Oberursel by filling in the front pushrod holes. Actually, you can use it as a Clerget, early Bentley, Le Rhone, or Oberursel with only a little modification. It is a cracker of an engine with individually cast cylinders that will drive you nuts getting everything aligned but with care the end result is beautiful. Another word of caution, the cylinder heads are a bit too long and will not fit into the DML Fokker Dr.I and D.VIII cowl (that is the kit that the engines are designed to replace). The best way to cope with this is to shave a little off the base of the cylinder before installing and that way you will not have to destroy the beautiful detail on the cylinder heads. MMmm. I think that the notion that a small replica will appear too dark if painted with paints taken from a 1:1 subject still holds. Personally, I think the whole formula business is a classic example of someone providing a rough guideline which has been taken as some sort of mathematically derived gospel - and made a valid argument into a load of tosh. As for WW1 being harder to do this with than WW2 - I think it's easier, because there's almost no-one out there adamantly prescribing what the *exact* *real* *colours* are, leaving you with more freedom to interpret to your own satisfaction without the lunatic fringe looking askance. > This is one reason, amongst > many, that I have never had any great, burning desire to > build a model and enter it in a contest. Not a reason. In 99% of organised model contests the shade of colour of the paint will not be judged. Its the one I took her to on our first date 12 years ago. Back then she sat through all 4 hours of it and then went out with me again after that. Forgot that in the movie they used Tiger moths as Turkish 2 seaters. The Moths had some sort of camo applied to them and Early Turkish White Star/Cresent Moon on Red background markings. Seeing as a Moth is flown from the rear seat it was interesting to see a "gunner" standing up in the rear seat facing backwards with an MG. They must of flown the Moths with mirrors.
