I simply list those topics (mainly by aeroplane type) in a thick address book, which is organized in alphabetical order. When I look for references about a specific aeroplane type, I simply pick up the address book, go for the aircraft type and read the list. The list is made of: - aeroplane version (for example: Ni.17); - object (for example: cockpit details); - and/or other interesting notes (for example: F.Baracca's mount). Magazines are stored by type in shelves. I have been using this method since 1986 and it seems to work well... I fully agree with RK. I can not tell OT samples as I don't have any original piece but I am pretty sure RK is right with his PC 10 sample. ot samples: In the days when I was still driving ambulances I built fire engines and ambulances in HO scale. On my first models I used original paints from the original paint shops. RAL 1014 for ambulances and RAL 3000 for fire engines. I failed completely. The RAL 1014 which is called 'ivory' looked much, much too dark and even greyish/greenish. The RAL 3000 which is 'fire red' looked too dull, too orange, even too brownish. Awful. I had to lighten the 'ivory' with 40% white plus ochre. For the Fire Red I choosed a very vermillon red. I alway thought the effect of scale colour is caused by the light. The original thing reflects simply more light than those 1/87 things and that worked for me. But the solution is not white paint! You have to use grey or yellow or ochre. And you can't beef up red! The same with ot Luftwaffe colours. Try to take a original paint chip in RLM 70 and PLM 71 and paint your model. It will come out in uniform blackish green and no difference between the shades. Alas, this is no help for OT paints. I only trust my experience and the colours should have the contrast I see in the b/w-pics. That's all. Hans P.S. Its general arrangement was the same of the drum in the Ni.17. I found at least one picture of the latter's cockpit showing wood panels hiding the drum form the pilot's view. If my memory serves me well, the panels were screwed to the fuselage frame and I suppose they were meant to prevent anything touching the drum, especially while it was revolving. Would you store > this then say in a folder system ? No, I don't cut up the magazines, and I have them all side-by-side on a shelf by type and publication date (well at least I try to). I have a small binder with cards named with the different airplanes and if I see an article related I put an entry with the number of the mag in the card. I also have about 5 or 6 large binders with plastic pockets on wich I save the tips and data that I gather from the list and also I printed several pictures from the net and other stuff I've gathered. It's a lot of junk, but very useful. I try to keep a record of the contents on the same cards I mentioned, but I'm always behind and I realy loathe to do archival work. I arranged the folders by airplane alphabetically disregarding country of origin and separating each section from the other with a small autoadhesive tab. Whenever I work in a model "seriously" I gather all references including datafiles and magazines with articles in a regular folder that I keep on the table. I usually know it off the table boundaries and all the contents go flying everywhere, but that's another story. The sole purpose is to hold the wings and fuselage in the appropriate positions the right distance apart. The struts are then slipped in, one by one, working from the inside out. Come in, Rosario! I can testify that it works very well, but I still would improve one or two things mainly to my own fault in building the jig: The supports for the "wing shelf" must move on guides on the same unit, to maintain the parellelism amongst the base and the wing shelf. Also, I would change the complicated design I made for supporting the fuselage aligned for a simpler base drilled at regular intervals. I'll have to take pictures of the apparatus someday, but it looks so crappy and made of junk plastic that I'm slightly embarrased of the way it looks. But it works!
