This is in response to last week's thread about Robert Baumgartner's problems with the Roden matte finished decals. I put the final dull coat on my Roden Fokker D.VII yesterday. The decals look fine. The model was prepared with a good coat of Future. Once the decals were applied and dry more Future was applied to help get rid of any silvering. I poked holes in the decals and used a paintbrush to shove the Future underneath the decal. Once this was dry I completed the finish with Model Master Acryl II dullcoat. I think it looks good. Later! My machine seems to lead a fairly charmed life since I do not have, and, never have had an Anti-virus program installed. I have been on the net and Bulletin boards since 1981. I have never had any "Virus or Trojan Horse" that I know of. So every day I count my blessing and I am thankful every time. People laugh when I tell them the main reason is I do not use any of the Microsoft Browsers or e-mail system programs. I use Netscape 6 or some off the wall system and the "Hackers/Virus creators" seem to lock in on MS and that is where the massive majority of the stuff takes over. I am seriously looking into Linux. But, it will not support external equipment that I presently own and use daily. I have to much invested to give it up. 6 hard and floppy drives and a CD burner plus scanner which reside all outside my main computer's touch. It listens to what I want it to and sents across what I tell it to. None of the auto saving or any of that stuff gets to them. (Mostly because I can "click them off" any time I want them to lie dormant. The HDs' are all I-1394 "firewire". 4 devices are USB" ( Iomega-floppy-250 MB, a Digital camera card reader, a scanner and an HP 8200 series, CD burner) , and live on a shelf, self powered and very happy devices. I can leave the computer run 24 hours a day and nothing can reach them in shut down condition That does not mean I may not get a virus one day, when, some "Horses Arse" may find a way around my personal "mind set, attitude and delete finger". I have never been able to figure out what kind of kick a person can get by destroying other people tranquility. I t will be a pleasure to get a report of yes or no. Thanks in advance for all the extra effort. Lee M. Shane Weier wrote: > Lee asks: > >> Shane be kind. >> >> If mine shows any signs please let me know. I mentioned on the Aerodrome forum that i hadn't recieved a copy and Greg VanWyngarden repied and told me he would send them to me. Thank you Greg - you’re a gentleman and a scholar ;) I'm pleasantly surprised at some of the production values in this magazine. It's printed on relatively thick coated paper, and the cover stock is remarkably durable. The B&W illustrations and photos are nicely printed. I expected something more like WW1 Aero - which, as much as i like the content, is printed VERY cheaply. On the bad side - the color (outside front and back cover) is dark and tends to be overly magenta. RK and Bob had warned me of this so i was prepared. Coincidentally - I talked to Aaron (OTF production)today and he expressed a certain amount of disappointment with the color printing and is currently taking steps to rectify the situation. I'm pretty certain that he will have it fixed soon. I must say - my biggest disappointment is that the illustration on the back of the summer issue is distorted, Squashed vertically by at least 90% The wheel at the bottom should by just about circular :-/ well... All this aside - I can honestly say that I am more likely to subscribe to this magazine now that I’ve seen it. They have good people putting it together who are obviously committed to producing a high-end magazine. All-in-all a nice publication And I'm proud to have work in it Nice toons Diego - they look great Mark Miller Find the best deals on the web at AltaVista Shopping! http://www.shopping.altavista.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 00:03:22 -0000 From: "Pedro Soares" To: Subject: Re: Virus problems Message-ID: <000c01c176d6$ee102940$0f7316d5@netcabo.pt> Gang, Just used the scanner Steve pointed us to, and found out that I was also infected. Okay, stoopid question time. Why don't you just lay the decals down in a puddle of Future? I do this, then I use a Q-tip (something "bud" for you overseas folks) to squeeze the Future out from "under" the decal, going from the center of the decal to the edges. If you're careful with the rolling, you can get a perfect, edge-less decal to lay down flat.
