Message-ID: <009101c16b84$f174bfe0$68aa72d4@FRITZweb> Neil, I am using two different methods, depending on materials available, used struts material and my personal mood. a) the simple and fast and unreliable method Take a thick, soft sellotape. I often use double-sided tape fixed on a piece of wood or plastic. Simple push the strut into the tape. It's sticky enough and thick enough to held them standing upright. But it does not take much stress, so it's good for airbrushing or very soft brush action, only. b) the not-so-simple method: Take a piece of plastic card and drill holes for the struts. Chose the right diameter, as if the struts will be fixed in the wing. Push the struts into the holes and fix them, if necessary with PVA. If the diameter is correct, they will not go deeper into the plastic as in the wing. Takes more strain than method a), but avoid hard brush strokes. OTOH, and not intending to begin a "flame war", I'll say the British, French, and Americans awarded victories to any pilots who "shared" in the "kill", where the Germans assigned a victory to one pilot and one pilot alone. Three French pilots all get shots in as the 'plane goes down, they each get full credit. Three Germans shoot at a 'plane as it goes down, and only one gets credit. Also, the Germans required field confirmation of a victory to corroborate a pilot's claim, though there were exceptions. (See "Under the Guns of the German Aces") The Brits often went on a pilot's word alone, such as Bishop's alleged pre-dawn aerodrome raid. (Who was there to confirm THAT one?) HTH Have Fun!! Reportedly, this collection smelt bad. Because the round shape, you can easily roll them between your fingers which makes painting wheels very easy. Also any little part that has a hole in it can easily be put on a toothpick. And because it's pointed tip it fits any size of little holes up to its own diameter. To hold the toothpicks with the parts for drying I then stick them either into a big raw potatoe or a ball of plasticine for kids. Even when painting figures, I drill holes into the base of arms, hands and heads to stick them onto toothpicks for painting. happy modeling ;o) Gaston Graf (ggraf@vo.lu) Meet the Royal Prussian Fighter Squadron 2 "Boelcke" at: http://www.jastaboelcke.de ------------------------------ Date: 12 Nov 2001 11:26:13 -0800 From: Mark Miller To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Nieuport questions Message-ID: <20011112192613.28938.cpmta@c012.sfo.cp.net> On Mon, 12 November 2001, "Muth and Zulick" wrote: > > > > 1. I've been wondering about this myself lately The Photo Diego pointed to shows a large metal plate on the port side of the N12 tailskid, I don't rember seeing that on any external views also if you look at the other N12 photos at the canada Aviation museum you will find some more tailskid photos which don't look like they have a wood surface The Canada Aviation Museum is a goldmine of structural photos http://www.aviation.nmstc.ca/Eng/Collection/coll_alphabet.html go to the collection and click on the N12 - then go to other photos - be patient - there are about 75 photos and it takes a while to load - excellent stuff!! Check out all the N17 photos as well Mark Find the best deals on the web at AltaVista Shopping! http://www.shopping.altavista.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2001 19:30:17 +0000 From: "Brent Theobald" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Sidna cont'd: Message-ID: So, what is Sidna anyway? >From: Rory Goodwin >Reply-To: wwi@wwi-models.org >To: Multiple recipients of list >Subject: [WWI] Sidna cont'd: >Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 00:21:43 -0500 (EST) > >Also: > >Paschendaele Alb. I have a pair of models to hand out in hopes that someone will build and review them for the Roll Models web site. The first is the new 1/32 SPAD from Hobby Craft. It looks pretty good in the box although the pilot's office is pretty sparse. That's what Hobby Craft does though. (Matt, you cannot have this one. DON'T ASK!!!) :) The second is a 1/72 Dh-9 from Ardpol. This kit is really well detailed. The cockpit is great. There is a downside to this kit. Two parts were broken during transit. However, they are clean breaks and should glue right back on without any problem. I think this is a negative effect of a good model kit. The parts are just so fine and fragile that it is hard to protect them during shipping. I am going to have more in the near future too. Mostly bittner scale resin stuff. If anyone out there wants to build either of these kits, please contact me *off list* at: brent@rollmodels.com Thank you very much! I believe the C&CI Vol 20 No 1 issue has an article on Jasta 36b. In that article are a number of drawings done by DSA showing some of the markings held by aircraft in J36b. One of those is a Fokker Dr.I with black and white diagonal stripes on the ailerons. I need this drawing to help me complete the Eduard kit I'm about to work on. Could someone please scan this drawing for me? Like I said I *do* have the issue, I just don't know where I put it. Please? TIA!
