You can subscribe to Windsock mag directly from Albatros productions (check their website) or thru Wise Owl publications, that are the distributors in the USA. I subscribe thru Roll's since it's more convenient to me living in Argentina, since it's -believe it or not- cheaper this way than directly from the publishers. Usually Roll's mail order is very fast, but this time have been delayed and I wondered if it wasn't strayed in the way from the US to here. What Roll does is provide a service to his customers, where you send him a CC number, and each time Windsock and/or the Datafiles come out, he charges your card and sends the stuff on its way to you. You can subscribe direct through Albatros Pubs, a link to their site exists on the WW1 site. Alternatively you can "subscribe" through Wise Owl, again a link to them is in the Links page on our site. I am coming back to WWI aircraft after a time away. I modeled them mostly in 1/72 scale as a college student. I have done a few models of other scales and subjects as well, don't we all? Besides the planes i have done a lot of wargames miniatures, mostly fantasy and science fiction as that is what people in my neck of the woods play. The sorting officw in Brentwood, Maryland that serves a lot of the DC metropolitan area has been shut for a couple of weeks. It's important to note that we should try to keep with our normal lifestyle and not to be scared with the latest Squadron leaflet. This is what terrorists want, but we ain't gonna make his game, right? What is important here is to talk with your family and co-workers about these precautions, to have the important phone numbers handy and to let know to your nearest ones what to expect in your mailbox (remember Martín and his box episode). Information is the key. Here are some recommendations agreed amongst varios postal services, including the USPS and the Argie mail service (it has been detected a anthrax carrying letter here as well), and what to do if you receive a baaaad package: Is your mail "suspicious?" If any parcel is: Unexpected or is from an unfamiliar source. Addressed to someone no longer with your organization or is outdated in any way. Has no return address or an address that cannot be verified. Lopsided, oddly shaped, or has an unusual weight, given its size. Marked with restrictive endorsements, such as "Personal" or "Confidential." Has protruding wires, strange odors or stains. Shows a city or state in the postmark that doesn't match the return address. What to do if any of the preceding characteristics happen: Don't open the package or envelope. Isolate it in a plastic bag. Evacuate the immediate area. Call a postal inspector and file a report if your postal service is able to give this service. If not, call the usual emergency system. What I am exposed to a piece of contaminated mail? Do not handle the envelope or package. Contact the Postal Service's Inspection Service, local police, safety office or other designated authorities. Ensure that everyone who had contact with the piece of mail washes their hands with soap and water. Make a list of all the people who had contact with the package or envelope, include contact information, and provide the list to the Inspection Service. Place all items worn in contact with the suspicious mail in plastic bags and present them to law enforcement agents. Shower with soap and water as soon as possible. If prescribed medicine, take it until instructed or until it runs out. Officials will notify local, county and state health departments and the state emergency manager. Call the local Center for Disease Control Emergency Response What is Anthrax? Anthrax, an acute infectious disease caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis, most commonly occurs in hoofed mammals and can also infect humans. It is a widespread zoonosis transmitted from domestic animals (cattle, sheep, goats, buffaloes, pigs and others) to humans by direct contact or through animal products. There is an effective vaccine for those occupationally exposed, and successful vaccines for livestock, particularly for herds with ongoing exposure to contaminated soil. In most countries anthrax is a notifiable disease. Surveillance is important to monitor the control programs and to detect outbreaks. Symptoms Symptoms of disease vary depending on how the disease was contracted, but usually occur within 7 days after exposure. The serious forms of human anthrax are inhalation anthrax, cutaneous anthrax, and intestinal anthrax. Initial symptoms of inhalation anthrax infection may resemble a common cold. After several days, the symptoms may progress to severe breathing problems and shock. Inhalation anthrax is often fatal. The intestinal disease form of anthrax may follow the consumption of contaminated food and is characterized by an acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. Initial signs of nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, and fever are followed by abdominal pain, vomiting of blood, and severe diarrhea. Spread Direct person-to-person spread of anthrax is extremely unlikely, if it occurs at all. Therefore, there is no need to immunize or treat contacts of persons ill with anthrax, such as household contacts, friends, or coworkers, unless they also were also exposed to the same source of infection. Treatment In persons exposed to anthrax, infection can be prevented with antibiotic treatment. Early antibiotic treatment of anthrax is essential-delay lessens chances for survival. Anthrax usually is susceptible to penicillin, doxycycline, and fluoroquinolones. An anthrax vaccine also can prevent infection. Vaccination against anthrax is not recommended for the general public to prevent disease and is not available. I hope this helps D. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 06:57:25 -0800 From: "Laskodi" To: "WWI List Post" Subject: RE: Thinning Acrylics Message-ID: <000d01c16153$304b36e0$273819d0@f4hn201> <<and gives you a velvet smooth surface that is very durable. But just in case the original message did not come through, here´s some important news for those who are considering spending $ 100+ for the Meikraft kit: I think I already hinted that in May, but now I can finally confirm the last new release due from Luedemann - the one that I guess will be the one drawing most attention: It is the first in a new series of bigger multi-engined planes (again made possible by the somewhat stronger resin Luedemann is using). First in a series of at least four bigger aircraft planned for the future is the Caproni Ca 3!!! Again, the kit will be in 72 scale. It will retail at DM 49,95 - that´s around 22 US $ only. That´s less than what some are asking for a single engined Czechmaster or Omega resin. I guess those guys should really reconsider their prices... I have not seen a sample, and production is obviously delayed slightly due to some technical problems and the high demand for the original, already existing Luedemann kits, but in general this might be the best christmas surprise we (at least those of us who build in the proper scale) are in for...
