I had completely forgotten about this source! And thanks for answering the qns patiently. Just a few followup questions. - the photos of the Champlin engine show a brass/copper water jacket. Is this a replacement, or would a real engine jacket be the same material. If so, what colour would it be in its "weathered" state? - the photos clearly show the rocker arm working both valves. A major element of an effort like this has to be ground vehicles. - Flat beds, tanker trucks, electrical generator trucks, staff cars, motorcycles etc. I've been looking for data on vehicles like this (especially scale plans) for some time now. Best info I've received so far was in response to a post on this list about a year ago. A subscriber on this list (I'm sorry but I can't remember his name - john I think) mailed me about a dozen side views of a variety of allied vehicles, anyone interested contact me off list and I can send you a list of what I have. However I still don't feel that I have sufficient info to model any of these vehicles so the search continues. Recently, I decided to search the web for sources, I contacted several organizations which specialize in antique trucks and asked for help. I have received several replies but still have nothing concrete to show for it But what I've learned so far is: As far as Allied vehicles are concerned there is some hope. Apparently there are a couple of restored Crossley tenders in England and I get the general impression that if I dig hard enough I'll be able to uncover the info I need. Nothing French yet though but I did get a lead on a museum (the Berliet Foundation at Lyon) which supposedly has a large collection of WW1 Lorries I received some very nice plans of a Mack truck and have been told that it was used by American and British (and French?) forces. Nice looking truck - and I actualy have enough data to contemplate modeling it German vehicles are another story. The best lead I have so far is that there does exist (somewhere in England) a Busser (German truck manufacturer) frame with wheels That's it - no engine and no cab, just a frame with wheels. Even Dan-San with his resources has nothing on these vehicles - in fact he has posted a request to be kept apprised of any info so that he could include it in a book which he is currently working on This is pretty disappointing considering the fact that I want to model a German Aerodrome so that my Albatros would have a home. . I haven't contacted Rhinebeck yet - they have a collection of period vehicles and I live only an hour away So if anyone has any information - or a good idea of where I could look please contact me TIA Mark Miller Find the best deals on the web at AltaVista Shopping! http://www.shopping.altavista.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 16:50:43 -0500 From: "Matt Bittner" To: "wwi@wwi-models.org" Subject: Good news - mixed with "egads" Message-ID: Okay, I was contacted out of the blue by a local junior-high teacher to help organize - and participate - in a modeling club she's forming. She told me they won't be using XActo blades (cripes, but okay, if we have enough sandpaper and nippers and maybe saws) but, the one that really got me, was no swastikas. Argh!!! Now I understand what the nazi's did to the swastika, but in my mind - first and foremost - the proper one was a symbol of good luck. I do plan on talking reasonably with her, and showing her the WW1 aircraft that flew with swastikas and it wasn't considered "evil". I will explain to her that "those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it". But, I was wondering if there is more I can use.
