It is used for medicinal purposes and fairly benign, though not to be taken internally. Denatured alcohol is not something I keep around and it is different - sold in hardware stores, I believe. You can also use ethyl alcohol, also sold in drug stores. Isopropyl and ethyl alcohol are also called rubbing alcohol. I leave it to Mark or Dave Flemming to discuss the technical details they have training in chemistry. Al, friends

I propose that the List should be silent for 24 hours in morn for this.

The folks at UNH do deserve it and it could be a way of showing our
appreciation both for the work you have been doing for all of us and also
for the support that UNH has also been providing.

what do you all think?

Pedro

Fletcher" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Return of the Conquering Hero Message-ID: <3BA00E52.6070002@mars.ark.com> Hi Folks, I'm back after seven weeks and a bit over 15,000 Km on the road. It was a pleasure to meet "Dame Karen" in Wheeling WV and I hope she didn't find anything bad to say about me (or my dogs...). I met other modellers in Glen Margaret (Nova Scotia), Kentville (Nova Scotia), Ottawa (Ontario), Toronto (Ontario) and Edmonton (Alberta), in addition to the ex-wife of a modeler (one 'l') in Portland, ME. I only picked up one kit (interwar, so "ot") and Dave Bashow's book, "Knights of the Air" for 15 measly Canadian dollars in the West Edmonton Mall. The illustrations look a bit like they were lifted from "Boy's Own Annual", but it is well worth the paltry sum I paid. It'll be worth more if I can get Dave to sign it... For those interested in the aircraft for which I am most well-known ("ot" so you have to visit my website for identification...), Bill Larkins has just established a new website - contact me off-list for the URL so I don't get flamed for going "ot". Now, back to working on my 1'=12" (1m=100cm) scale model. Jasta la Vista! I wrote that unsubbing email without first thinking of the possible damage and I should just simply have retired quietly if I chose not to read about the feelings and condolences of others. I do understand the need for grief and for the shared emotions that might help the healing process, but I find the internet a perversely sickening method of transfer for this - and strangely but unrealistically, I did not think this list would generate the same type of traffic as can be found elsewhere. I am also saddened, horrified and angered at events, but nothing I do or say online will turn back the clock or put families and people back together, or make others feel genuinely better. If I have become a hated pariah as a consequence of my actions, then that is regrettable but understandable. I'm sorry for opening my mouth and treading on already damaged feelings and I truly understand the disgust and contempt that I have earned from some here - that was not my intent. I have got enough Eduard Nie 17 boxes to experiment. I know that there is a Tom Modelworks conversion available, but I'd like to improve my modest skills a little bit and do it on my own. The only problem is of course a rear half of fuselage. I think I'd make plastic or P/E ribs and would cover it with something. The question is what do you suggest to use as a covering. I've heard about tissue, but how to laminate it? Or may be there is another method to simulate fuselage profiling evenly? What is called "rubbing alcohol" in the US is a mixture of around 40% Isopropyl Alcohol and 60% water. Easy.......HOWEVER In Europe, and Australia for all I know, the name Isopropyl Alcohol went out of use some years ago. We have subscribed to the ISO Systematic Naming of compounds, and it is therefore now called Propan-2-ol. Go to your local chemical suppliers, tell them you want this (5 litres will keep you going for years!), and mix up batches with water. I use 70% to 30% water. As you airbrush Future, in dry air it will build up in the nozzle, and ruin the spray pattern. I use a pot of solvent, and when I pause, or when the Future builds up, I sit the nozzle in the solvent, wipe, spray briefly on newspaper, and then continue. Incidentally, if it dries out hard in the airbrush,(or even on the model!) it can be removed with a weak solution of ammonia in warm water, with added detergent. hth N -- Nigel Cheffers-Heard photography + design tel: +44 (0)1392 87 58 57 fax: +44 (0)1392 87 74 97 mobile: 0771 261 4514 nigelch@cheffers.co.uk www.cheffers.co.uk Laburnums, Bridge Hill Topsham, Exeter EX3 0QQ, UK ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 07:48:15 +0100 From: Tim Linnell To: Subject: Above the Trenches Message-ID: <010EF7D56E81D311AF850090273C43FE033E71C5@eden.recorders.eurotherm.co.uk> Dear All, Is there anyone with a copy of "Above the Trenches" who'ld be prepared to make a scan or photocopy of the (assumed) entry relating to one "FHM Maynard". Future is about the right consistency and can be sprayed direct from the bottle. Use low pressure, spray til the surface is JUST wet (otherwise you will get runs) and then give another coat when dry. It is important to "wet" the surface, otherwise the droplets do not flow together, and you get an orange peel effect. SO: not too little, not too much. Practice on a plastic yogurt pot.
