My wife got a shock when she logged in the day after I subscribed (I hadn't told her about that) and down came 80 odd messages. That was a surprise but I see a very lively group who are very passionate about their hobby! I live in Wellington, New Zealand. Are there any other Kiwis in the group? I am trying to reclaim a part of my life by starting modelling again after a long break (my oldest child is nearly five and the twins are two). I've got terminal kit collecting syndrome and won't ever get to build all the kits I've collected - kits are all 1/72 and span about four themes: absolute speed record holders, Luft '46, weird & wonderful, and WWI. I have also painted an extensive collection of 25mm metal soldiers - Zulu War, Romans/Huns/Vikings/Saxons/Persians/Goths. When I was a teenager back in the 70s I used to have a collection of model WWI planes that I used to wargame with. That was until I had a catastrophic accident with the box where they were all stored. All the planes were completely smashed and I got so despondent I moved onto other hobbies for 20 years. Anyway, I am about to start my first WWI kit since then - probably Roden's Fokker DVIII because I always wanted one as a teenager. By the way, are the kit decals really for a plane flown by Erich Loewenhardt? Wasn't Loewenhardt killed on August 10 1918, flying a Fokker DVII? If he actually flew the Fokker DVIII (EV) at all, it must have been for only a matter of days. Can anyone tell me what planes are covered in the Eduard kit decals for the 1/72 Fokker DVIII? I am also interested in modelling Theo Osterkamp's plane - is it correct that he scored the only victories in this type? AFAIR Loewenhardt was testing D.VIII during during a day or a couple of days only and did not see any combat with it. > Can anyone tell me what planes are covered in the Eduard kit decals > for the 1/72 Fokker DVIII? I am also interested in modelling Theo > Osterkamp's plane - is it correct that he scored the only victories in this > type? As I can see you are interested in aircraft flown by aces. Great! It is my own passion as well. But in case on D.VIII it's really difficult to find markings of the aces, because D.VIII was introduced lately, had teething problems, and was not intended to replace D.VII at all. IIRC there are four other D.VIIIs of the aces known besides elusive Lo ewenhardt's machine: - Osterkamp's, Sachsenberg's, Goetz', Altemeier's and Stec's But let our Fokkerophiles tell more about it...
