Lathes are pretty simple, and I think about the same. Metal turning lathes offer the most precision, especially with some accessories. "Does higher retail cost necessarily equate to better product?" In my experience, always. "What are the respective limitations?" "Is there a difference between belt-drive versus direct drive?" Belt drive provides smoother operation, more torque at low speeds, and better speed control. As you can tell the prices are a little higher, but they do ship overseas. I can't recommend them though. I purchased a book I thought was an English version of a Polish-language book, but got the Polish language book instead. Also, they sent a note with this catalog telling me I owe them $5 or I can just mail it back to them and they will reimburse me. (Also, the price of the catalog would be reiumbursed for any purchase over 10 pounds.) I'm sorry, but this offends me. I didn't request the catalog and now I either have to pay for it or mail it back? Not only that but their prices are way too high. Also of note: They list Munsons "Fighters 1914-1919" and "Bombers 1914-1919" (each 10.99 pounds) in the catalog -- but they don't have them on the website (www.books-international.co.uk). And I am glad there are people from the European East on this list for I can learn from them about their countries. Before the Iron Courtain fell I never had a chance to get in contact with people from the "evil Kommunist countries" except but from GDR where my wife is from. Beside the on-list correspondance with you folks there is another very positive side effect of this list - the off-list correspondance with so many of you which I truly enjoy.
