Message-ID: Friends, I am actually composing a special Red Baron II/3D CD so I searched my HDs from some goodies to add and came accross a long forgotten file - the RFC Manual that I once downloaded from the Rowan website. Rowan had created the Flying Corps sim for Empire a few months before RBII got released in 1997. Although I disliked the sim, I appreciated the good ideas they had by shipping the German version of FC with a copy of MvRs book "Der rote Kampfflieger". The English version came with a reprint of an RFC pilots manual about the aircraft and later the RFC tactical manual was made available for download from their website. If the list is interested I may post the tactical manual on the list so everybody can copy and paste the text from my message into a simple text file. The manual file was formatted as simple ASCII text anyway. Its size is only 55kb. But I would like to have the permission of list masters Matt and Alan to post the manual before I'll do so. Please let me know what you think, guys. If you don't want me to post it I can always send it by email to everybody interested. happy modeling Gaston Graf (ggraf@vo.lu) Meet the Royal Prussian Fighter Squadron 2 "Boelcke" at: http://www.jastaboelcke.de ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 11:39:19 -0700 From: Ray Boorman To: , Multiple recipients of list Subject: was My new toys - now confusion over Albatros Shipping rates. From the March April Windsock the rates overseas are. up to 15 pounds add 3 pounds 15-30 pounds add 6 pounds 30-40 pounds add 18 pounds over 40 pounds shipping post paid. However you have to read the grammar as well as the words. These are surface rates. These are there single order rates not subscription rates and the add says to allow 6 - 10 weeks for delivery o. For Air add 30 percent of the total order with no limits. The Specials are 2.25 pounds each copy. I don't see anywhere on the add where it says air is free after a certain price limit. If you are a subscriber there are price breaks but these again would be shipped at the cheaper rates. hth's Ray ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 20:59:48 +0200 From: "Gaston Graf" To: Subject: a question about copyrights Message-ID: Friends, is there any lawyer on this list who is familiar with international copyrights? I have a very interesting article here about flying the Fokker Dr.1 compared to the Sopwith Camel, photocopied from an old Flight International magazine. The article was send to me by mail from a visitor of my website. I OCR scanned it and would like to use it for the WORKBENCH section on my website so I contacted the editors of Flight International already weeks ago to ask for their written consent. Unfortunately nobody ever replied to me so I am now unsure whether I can use such an old article or not. I thought about posting it on my site, adding off course the copyright information to inform that it originally got published in Flight International, 8 April 1978. If somebody will then feel that I violated copyrights he/she should contact me and I will remove the article again. Or can I generally use excerpts of books for as long as I add details about the source and the copyrights of the respective author and/or editor? If so, how big can such an excerpt be? One page, several pages or even a complete chapter? In almost every book that I read there are notes added about books the author quoted from so I wonder if in any case a written consent must be given or if it suffices that an author adds the copyright info of the book that he quotes from. Any help with this would be very much appreciated. IIRC, most copyright is covered bt treaty, but besides that, here in the EU, it is a Commission Directive that covers it. I'm not a lawyer, but have a familiarity with copyright law from my job. First point, the article is still copyright, will be for 70 years from date of publication if I read correctly. You are allowed to copy a portion of a published work for private research, but I think you must have permission to 'republish' material. One way to find out more may be to ask in one of the legal newsgroups - uk.legal for instance.
