The rear float has a rudder. It appears that the rudder is controlled by a separate pair of control cables from the "air" rudder. I assume that both rudders are controlled by the same rudder-pedals. My question is: do both the rudders deflect by the same amount? In other words, when the tail rudder is deflected 10 degrees to port, is the float rudder deflected to same angle? This is not important for the model I am building, but I was simply curious about the mechanics. regards SSH ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2001 01:23:18 +1000 From: "David" To: Subject: Talkin' orstralian and a question Message-ID: <002501c1062f$961d0b80$1b7132d2@mannock> Hi All; People can't understand Aussie accents? Any suggestions as what I'm > doing wrong? Neil You didn't say what finish was on the model when you applied the washes. (gloss or flat). I found that with gloss finishes, washes tend to dissappear from the panel lines as well as the surface when wiped. The gloss is great if you want to wipe it off the surface, but it also makes it hard to keep it in the panel lines. I found that scribing the panel line with a sharp blade will break the gloss coat and allow the wash to stay in the lines. I use a scribing tool to scribe the gloss in the hinge lines as this breaks up a wider line. Wiping at a right angle to the line also tends to leave more wash in the line than wiping in the direction of the line. hth sp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jul 2001 08:56:30 -0700 From: "Limon3" To: Subject: Re: More on 4D Message-ID: <00dd01c10634$39df8320$a4f7303f@i7e2z6> Hi Marcio, The 7 Swabs was an OAW (Albatros) built machine, it has very different cowl panels from the Fokker built aircraft. Thompson" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: RE: More on 4D Message-ID: I don't know about "very" different. The initial OAW production version differed from the Fokker version only in the addition of an extra access panel on the upper left cowl. The early 4000's run was also pretty similar to Fokker early-mid production, and considering the predilection of crews for modifying the panels with extra louvers and holes, it can get pretty confusing determining which is which. Aircraft of the 4100-4650 run are very different from Fokker and Alb built versions- these have lots of louvers that are all shorter and rounder than those used by Fokker and Albatros. The final production versions (6300-6649 and 8300-9649) again reverted to the long, thin cooling louvers and added the secondary side cowling panel also used by Fokker and Albatros. Once again, at this point the differences are fairly subtle and you have to look very carefully to determine a given aircraft's manufacturer. If you happen to have a photo that shows the wing rib tapes and they stand out clearly as a separate color from the lozenge fabric, you can pretty much rule out Fokker as the manufacturer- Fokker's standard was tapes made of strips of lozenge fabric. OAW's standard was light blue, Albatros pink/salmon. All that being said, Gabe is right in this case- the 7 Swabians machine is Fokker D.VII (OAW) 4369/18. That places it in the OAW series with the small, round cooling louvers, and to convert another version accurately to this layout is going to be fiddly. -----Original Message----- From: wwi@wwi-models.org [mailto:wwi@wwi-models.org]On Behalf Of Limon3 Sent: Friday, July 06, 2001 10:52 AM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: More on 4D Hi Marcio, The 7 Swabs was an OAW (Albatros) built machine, it has very different cowl panels from the Fokker built aircraft.
