Lee, Now that you have finally reached the "Middle Aged" period of your life, what do you plan on doing for the second half. At 55, I am working on my third career (retired twice already, and failed both times) and still have 20 years to go to "Middle Age". I think I am going to take it easy for now, and when "Middle Age" starts to set in, I will retire again, go buy myself a Corvette, start wearing Bermuda shorts, let my hair grow, stop shaving and spend more time working on OT models in the true devine scale (1/72) and try to find a way to finish most of the 4k plus unbuilt kits in the stash. Hopefully by then, someone will have developed working turn buckles to help with the rigging, and laser eye surgery will let me regain my once better than 20/20 eyesight. Best wishes and may you have just as many more. When I first made the buttons/badges, I had access to a badge-a-minute machine. If I still had the access, I would make more, but at this time I don't. I have been thinking about buying my own machine, but the $300 plus is a bit out of teh budget at the moment. When I get back from Chicago, I will see how much I have left over and take it from there. I do have a couple of computer upgrades that will have to come first, but I would like to be back in the position to make and distribute them again. So all I did for a bit after that was work at volunteer stuff.. VP of an Apple Computer Club in San Antonio for one. Now I pursue a hobby of taking photos of New "antique" airplanes. I belong toa the Vintage Aviation Historical Foundation and I was among the first member to go along with them. As planes are constructed I take numerous photos and try to maintaina sembalance of a photo diary. Not every day but often enough to make sense. It is about 30 miles away from home. At presentr they are doing three Jennies. A JN 3 for the Columbus, New Mexico Museum about the Pancho Villa raid. Then two JN 4 tyes. One regular and a JN4C Canuck. It is proposed that one will be done up as the plane in "The Great Waldo Pepper" and the other as a standard military machine. It keeps me awake and sometimes busy. During the nextr year or so we hope to have both airborne at the same time. First time, in fifty years, to have two Jennies in the sky together. The other plane is a Fokker D VII , unfortunately, with an inverted Ranger engine since we are not able to get a Mercededs at a decent price and good enough to use for sustained flight. If you have 4k of kits you have me beat. I think I have about 2k.. Morwe than I need anyway. I had cataract surgery in 1998 and I see 20/20 except for reading. The plexiglass lense does not focus close so I need glasses for reading. Problem is I have worn glasses since I was 7 years of age. Without them I feel naked. So I wear glasses all the time with the bifocal and I have a special pair with a really great tint for the computer. Everything gets so sharp it almost leaps off the screen. (Great for digital photo work.) Then I have another pair of Shooter type (kind of yellow/orange shade) glasses for driving and sun use. They are marvelous also. I can even wear them in the dark and they cut off almost all UV during the day and sharpen things up at night as well. I can see detail at night and blocks ahead as I drive. Really great. Every bit of glare is eliminated. Never had anything quite like them before. So I wish you well on the eye fix. Mine was done with a knife but I know laser correction works well also. I passsed the driving test with glasses off. For kicks I want to tell you I have PC genealogy classes on the first Wednesday, PC Club on the second Monday and CD Burner classes on the last Thursday of each Month at 7 PM. On the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10 AM I have advanced Internet and communications classes. The Alamo Squadron IPMS Chapter is on the first Thursday and I have missed about 8 meetings in 12 years. I have so many things to do that I sometimes wonder why I do it. I was a Shriner till a few years ago and had to quit since it was taking to much time and I had so many other things to do. I still support their endeavors of course but I do not participate in meetings and such. I belong to the DAV, The American Legion and the VFW. I just asked for release from the Elks since I did not attend any of the functions for more than 3 years and it seemed silly to continue. Anyway there are many ways to use your time and all of the groups will allow you to work yourself half to death if you wish. My drink is Bourbon and Soda with lots of ice. I gave up drinking a lot about 5 or six years ago. Never did drink much after I was about 40. Just decided I was about over the desire. But I still keep in touch every evening and I have one or two during the evening if we are staying home. If we go out I have a beer with dinner, rarely, two beers. We are heading to Ryan's Steak House on Friday night and we shall see if I go for two or not. You take great care John and enjoy life. It is a neat thing to be able to do what you want or to do nothing if it turns you on that day. I have enjoyed the third retirement immensly. Never cared much for a Corvette. I have a 2000 Pontiac Firebird and a 96 LHS Chrysler. If I could afford it I would like a "D" Jaguar or a nice DB Coupe from about 1955-60. Me and James Bond. Not sure if it existed before the war, or how long it lasted after. Under the banner it says "Illustrirte Flugtechnische" (Illustrated aviation technology would be my guess) and "Zeitschrifte fur das gesamte" (no clue on that one). Maybe one of the German members of the list can tell us more about its history." Well, Flugsport was published since *1908*, with the publisher being Oskar Ursinus, one of the most influential persons in Germany´s pre-war aeronautic circles (he also was the founder of the "Flugtechnischer Verein", who promoted flying in Germany). Ursinus also build both unpowered and powered aircraft before the war, and his more famous creations during the war are the Gotha-Ursinus G I (where´s that Sierra vac?) and the Rex/Ursinus floatplane fighter with retractable floats. Flugsport was published at least until 1944; I think there were also some issues after the sequel, but the name still survives until this day: Germany´s biggest professional aeronautical magazine "Flugrevue" still mentions that it is "combined with Flugwelt International, Weltluftfahrt, Airworld and Flugsport". Ursinus himself turned his attention to the gliders after the war. He was responsible for the establishment of that famous mecca of German glider enthusiasts, the Wassserkuppe in the Rhoen mountains. Today, Germany´s version of the EAA is named the "Oskar Ursinus Vereinigung" As for Flugsport, the early postwar volumes are EXTREMELY interesting, having a good number of OT articles and photos. Strangely touching to see them all with linked arms. Strangely weird to see skeletons where only the boots hadn't disappeared. Lest We Forget, MVJ P.S. Canadian listees are gearing up for July 1's Canada Day holiday. here in Newfoundland it's even more special. We celebrate it first and foremost as Memorial Day. Juily 1, 1916 Battle of Beaumont hamel. Royal Newfoundland Regiment went over the top and got decimated. Of a couple of hundred who went over the top only a handful were able to stand for the roll the next day. Something to bear in mind.
