Briefly, the remains of 20 British soldiers was found near Arras. There are two photos, one of the skeletons being excavated and one of little plastic bags of personal effects being cataloged. The bodies were in a 6 foot by 48 foot trench, laid shoulder to shoulder with arms linked. Three others were found in a nearby shell hole and one more by himself. The site was being searched prior to the construction of a BMW automobile plant.... The bodies will be re-burried 600 yards away in the Pont du Jour military cemetery. The article ends with the comment that there are still 100,000 Commonwealth soldiers missing from WWI. sp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2001 08:14:05 +1000 From: Shane Weier To: "'wwi@wwi-models.org'" Subject: RE: OT Ship Shtuff (Dreadnought site and Beatties report of the b Message-ID: <7186131CB805D411A60E0090272F7C7102BCD137@mimhexch1.mim.com.au> Ray says: > Arsenal are somewhere around pondscum. Yeah, because if he does....... Tamiya will announce a new series of WW1 kits in 1/72, 1/48, 1/32 and 1/24 covering every major and most minor fighters, and every two seater of note at prices not exceeding US$10 All of them really will appear, on time and under budget Hasegawa will announce a Zepellin Staaken in 1/32 at a price under that for their new Spifire IX. No-one will complain about the odd subject choice (even from the modelling Luftbroederbund (sp?)), and it'll be a raging success. This will be put down to the automatic rigging accessory included in every kit. The entire collection of WW1 aircraft held in Britain at end of WW1 for preservation, and thought to have been destroyed in the 1920's will be found in the attic of a house in Cornwall. All the fabric will be in perfect, unfaded and unyellowed condition. In the ceiling space of an outhouse on the same property Herr Voss' cowling will be discovered. No one will have the slightest doubt that it's genuine because of the attached Statutory Declaration - in English - signed by Voss himself "This is the cowl of the Fokker I was flying the day I died" Resin and RTV prices will fall through the floor, thus allowing CSM and other cottage manufacturers to compete with the new low price Tamiya and Hasegawa kits. However, the lack of new subjects will drive them to provide such wished for accessories as absurdly flattened tyres, starving cow ribs for those not liking the newly fashionable restrained look, and incredibly highly detailed avionics bay which in true aftermarket tradition will look amazing, but be entirely conjectural and not fit worth sh*t. AND THEN ----- he'll probably lead them to winning the Championship. Probably right Shane, but hey, who has a better chance? And c'mon, it's just no fun when your arch rival is down, you want a quality opponent to hate. And don't forget: Testor's, Polly S, Tamiya, and Humbrol will announce a merger of their paint lines, forming a conglomerate based on their new Inst-O-Dry technology. This line of paints, selling for 10 cents a pint, will be available in every FS and Methuen color in flat, semi-gloss, and gloss, in airbrush ready and brush coat viscosities, and is guaranteed to dry completely without orange peel in under five seconds. Even better, every color can be painted opaquely in a single coat over any other. Further, with the new ZizzAway additive, the paint actively repels all dust, dirt, or animal hair not only during drying, but for its entire estimated colorfast lifetime of 6000 years. To back up this claim, the company agrees to pay $1 million to any modeler whose finish is anything other than museum quality. Below that in big letters is Flug-Wesen, but it was wrapped around the cover artwork, so I didn't think the two were related. When I get some more time I'll scan the ads, they're fabulous examples of art-deco design. There is one that cracks me up though, the Austro-Daimler FlugMotore ad is hand-sketched, with an almost comic-like font- but the best part is the military two seater in the sky surrounded by....flowers. Yes, flowers. Methinks the advertising department was not quite sure what business they were in. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 19:00:41 -0500 From: "Jay M.
