The idea is that you want uniform pressure, and your fingers might cause a concentration of pressure. Nonetheless, tell me more about this "skateboard grip tape" stuff. Never heard of it. Its gettin em. But boy is that rib tape laying platoon a pack of sluggards, all worried about getting them on straight while the whole war waits on hold. The Commander will have to deal with the situation as soon as he returns from the model show tomorrow evening. > But if you think that kit is the worst, you can't have witnessd the 1/48 > Walfisch! (trembling as if having just drunk sour milk) I can only imagine....but for the sake of my remaining shreads of sanity I'll try not to. I have the quarterscale Sierra Walfisch and that looks like a great vac kit. sp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 21:33:37 From: "Jim Landon" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Merlin kits Message-ID: <> If nobody else wants it, I could use it to practice on before I attempt a good kit. This is not to sand with, or hold in your fingers, but to apply to the work being sanded so you can grip the object while it is held to your sandpaper surface. As I have been sanding some vacs and resin myself lately, I'll tell you what I do: Sandpaper is sprayed on the backside (non-grit area) with a spray adhesive (3M or such) Sandpaper is placed on a clean flat surface (a nice wide piece of plywood for me) The plastic to be sanded gets bits of masking tape stuck to the outer/upper surface, starting the tape on one area, folding it up, and then back down across itself, (tape to tape) and then folding the fourth area back out. Looks like an inverted " T " with the top of the T the areas stuck to the work. By pinching the upright tab of the " T " I have something to hold the work. I lay the sanding board across my lap, or on a table, lay my work on the sandpaper, grasp the work with the aid of my masking tape " T " handles, and sand away. Lets me check that I am sanding straight with even pressure, and aids me in not having my fingertips slide off the work and onto the sandpaper, abrading my fingertips. Good luck to all, Brian ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 15:51:29 -0600 From: "Lee J. Pancho Villa did, actually, invade the U.S. Territory and he , with his compadres, shot up the town of Columbus, New Mexico. A portion of the U.S. government activity was intended to prevent further spread of the German influence on our border during that time period. Earlier no one cared much, but, with the advent of problems in Europe interest heightened, and, Pancho pushed his luck a bit far. Oh yes. I lived in new Mexico for 26 of my 75 years. Lee M.
