The OT aircraft were mostly in one category, Pre WWII >all scales. >There were a total of 8 OT entries in this category (up from >last >year), and OT a/c swept the category. For some reason, I always think it is unfair for scales to be combined, unless there is really no choice e.g. vacs, scratch built etc. There's a saying in boxing - "A good big'un will always built a good littl'un". If both kits are equal in most ways, the larger one will probably have more detail and is likely to win. It's more difficult to put the same level of detail into a smaller scale kit. Why not put biplanes in with one the 23 single prop WW2 categories in that scale? Too much of a deviation from the norm perhaps? My first (and last) "Any-scale-biplane" category entry saw all 3 places taken by "big stuff" and included the absurdity of one of those huge 1/28th scale Fokker D.VII's taking second. My kit was nowhere near good enough but other's might have been, including a really fine 1/72nd scale VLE Models DFW "Mars" monoplane. >Corky Mohedano got a third for his well done Roden Fok EV, and yours truly >managed a lucky 2nd for my Eduard Fok DrI. >I assume the Eduard DrI was the 1/72nd scale kit - therefore, you are >both >deserving of extra congratulations. Sorry for the whine but the aforementioned was my first "big" competition and it nearly put me off competing permanently. Back to reality, though, in general, I think the main objective of a good meeting/contest should be to have a long chin-wag with other modellers and blow a few bucks/quid on the vendors stuff. I forgot to mention about the acrylic retardent - you can use too much. A friend at my IPMS DC chapter used too much and the paint refused to dry, even after several days. I use about 3 drops per airbrush cupful. I could probably use more without the non-drying problem but I don't want to push that particular envelope too far. I was able to clear out a Meg of non-web related files so we're in the clear for the forseable future. In celebration of this fact I've uploaded 2 new modeler galleries: Paul Thompson and Gabriele Zenoni. Both accomplished modelers. Gabriele's scratch built Caproni is breathtaking for sure.
