It was photographed during that time and was unarmed. It featured CDL with irregular, possibly green (PC10?), bands on all upper surfaces with small Union Jack markings only on the rudder. It actually survived the Western Front, being sent back to England in June, 1915. I don't have the MAC kit, but I do have two Meikraft kits. I removed one fuselage from the sprue, taped it together and did an test fit atop one of the Roden wings. There is a minute gap/step where they meet. The Roden wing root is fractionally wider than the Meikraft fuselage. Looks like putty and sanding would fix it easily. It doesn't look like the Meikraft wings fit any better. If anything the wing root appears to be a bit narrower than the fuselage. Just in case anyone was curious. Here's a run down of what it contains. 12 resin parts - fuselage with fuel tank & seat support molded in interior, 2 lower wings, 2 upper wings, horizontal tailplane, vertical tailplane, engine pod, & 2 different pairs of flats. Molded in light tan resin, all parts were beautifully molded with no bubbles except for 1 upper wing (which Mike West will gladly replace after I e-mailed him). Trailing edges are nice & thin. Also a bag of metal parts that contain 2 Vickers guns, seat, engine, prop, 6 struts, 4 control horns, rudder pedals & what looks like a fuel priming pump. A vacuform part is used for the upper hull in front of the cockpit. There are no control column, throttle, instrument panel or windshield, although location of these items is included in the scale drawings. Decals include Italian roundels, rudder stripes, 3 diff M serial numbers & 2 large #9's. Looks like a nice kit, with a few scratchbuilt items needed. A photoetched set for interior details would be welcomed. Hats off to Mike West for issuing a great kit of an important seaplane even after Flashback canceled their kit! Graham (the genius) Hunter has sent me a drawing of his clevis design. Basically a tiny strip of brass slightly enlarged and rounded on each end. There are three holes, one in the middle and one on each end. It is folded in the center so the end holes line up. Slip it over a control horn with a hole in the end and run a piece of stretched sprue through al three holes as they line up. The control cable attaches to the center hole with CA. This is so cool. It is going to really dress up a model, especially those with exterior cranks and cables like a DH.2 or DH.4. Todd is sending a pattern for a Hanriot tail frame. Cam provided some excelent photos and drawings of the Snipe tail frame. Lance is ending a copy of the booklet explaining how to do the artwork. I'm likely forgetting someone so if I did please sing out and remind me. Brent's idea about the mesh for the gunner's post is especially good in light of the new Roden release of the Gotha. And Neil's idea about the fish plate being designed so it could be cut and used as a kind of mix & match to simulate several types is excellent. Come on now, some of you art majors step up to the plate here and take on designing and drawing some of these. We have the potential to create a very useful set of fiddly bits that I know I will especially enjoy using because so many friends on the List will have had ahand in it.
