There are a few small black chevron-type bits (l believe they are for Lenz's machine) but the main decals are the serial numbers - 4034/17, 1370/17, 1396/17, 1386/17 and a few small stencil bits, which l used for Klein's machine. Decal sheet indicates that 4034/17 is for "Unteroffizier Eugen Fortig" but instructions and box art make no mention of that machine. l cant help you much with the crosses, though - Klein's machine should have the wing crosses without the white outline, but l destroyed the first one of those as it went on (they are quite fragile) and, for the time being, l used the white-outline set, which means l dont have any spares. l will replace these from the next kit, when l will make sure l build one which doesnt require the ones without the outlines. Let me know what you need and your snail mail address and they will be on their way. Don't know if they were posted or not. Thought I would try again. Just looking through a local book shop and came across a 1st edition of Flying for France. On the inside cover was pasted an Obit from 1917 for the author as well as a written inscription which said, basically, "If you must fly, remember your are fighting for both America and France - a double honor." The book, I believe, belonged to a Willard O'Hill from Texas. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any American pilots named O'Hill or something similar to that. Would have been active the last year of the war? Also, how much does this book usually go for ($) in fair condition. I'm as interested in the inscription as the book itself. And... Just picked up copies of The First Air Campaign (1996) by Lawson and British Aviation- The Grat War and Armistice (1969) by Penrose. The Lawson book seems, at first glance, to be pretty general but has some intersting photos and data. The Penrose book looks like a nice reference. Wondering if anyone has any comments on these. Gordon Stevens, the man behind Rareplanes and the "inventor of the vacform" did these. IIRC, there were only 4 models in that range (Thomas Morse, Snipe, Pfalz D III, Junkers D I). The Gotha came directly under the Rareplanes range, which I always thought strange. BTW, Gordon Stevens also did the masters for some of the ot Project X series. I´m in process of building that Hawker P 1121 (since 2 years, I admit), and it´s another gem. Phoenix was a different operation. IIRC, the patterns were done by Les Cooper (who, together with Joe Chubbock did what I think must have been 90+ % of the vac masters in the late eighties - I think one of them also was behind the early Roseplanes?). And yes, later Blue Rider took over and also included some decals and Aeroclub white metal stuff (see the DH 6 thread we had a few days ago) Volker ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 19:08:07 -0700 From: "Dale Sebring" To: Subject: It's that time again Message-ID: <002f01c05684$8e630620$9db58dd0@main> This may not be worthy of the list since I only started this September. I am about to paint rudder and I am a bit confused. Eduard provided decals for rudder stripes with blue/white/red order (from front to rear). As far as I know USAS used white/blue/red bands first, and later changed the order to red/white/blue. So, had USN Hanriots French style blue/white/red or USAS style red/white/blue rudders? Also had early USN Hanriots carried French roundels in 1917 before they were replaced by US roundels? TIA Tomasz BTW. What the hell is (are?) bollocks?"..... ("are" is correct. The term is plural) Errrrm! How shall I put this. The word refers to part of the male genetalia but is word is used hereabouts to signify a degree of disagreement with some statement or opinion. There, I think I got away with that. Now, as to where babies come from............;) cheers Peter L ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 08:52:56 -0500 From: smperry@mindspring.com To: "Multiple recipients of list" Subject: Swallow progress Message-ID: <003a01c056e7$04690740$82f0aec7@default> The Swallow fuselage is closed up now. Some minor fit problems around the front top decking and the firewall/fuselage join. Nothing a bit of thick CA and some judicious sanding won't camoflage. So far my only criticism of the kit, and this is a pretty minor nit, is that there was no ammo box or ammo chutes and that the instrument locations were not marked on the drawing. Then again as this was a one of prototype the chutes and boxes might not have been added yet when development ceased. As neither problem is terribly visible withoit a mini dental mirror I'm not going to worry about it. Now a guestion to the PC-10 Afficinados. This is a very late war production. Would the PC-10 used then by Sopwith be on the greener or browner end of the PC-10 spectrum? sp E-mail smperry@mindspring.com Web Site http://www.freeyellow.com/members8/wwimodeler/ ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 2837 **********************
