That's why I suggested a group donation to his specified charity, in his name. I'm having trouble comming to terms with the award. While it's real easy to say,"Let's have a nice guy award", obviously no one has really given much thought to likely recipients. I have. And it's a real long list. And I would liken it to judging a catagory at a IPMS National conventionl. There's just SOOO many people on this list who seem willing to do anything they can to help out a fellow modeler, ranging from answering about what color this dooflaunchy is supposed to be painted, all the way up to sending someone a kit free kit. I for one would have a real hard time picking one listee over another in this catagory. I can only think of about 3 people who I wouldn't give it to, and I'm one of em. (the other two know who they are. ;) On top of that, if our intent is to honor the memory of Bill, there's better ways to do it. First to come to mind is, of course, a donation in his name to his specified charity. However, establishing an anual group project, and calling it the Bill Bacon Memorial whatever would be a good second choice. It could be a cook-up* or an anual group donation to an organization that looks after our interests, like a warbird museum, or something else. A small scholarship fund would be cool. Or a donation to any number of veterans organizations. I'm not tryin to cause trouble or be a heretic or anything, I'm just sharing my thoughts. However, I do like Diego's idea of a bunch of anual 'fun' awards. *as for the cook-up. Yes, Bob L. was dead on in his suggestion that we finish the first one before we start on a second. What if we just did this once a year? And another thing, I just don't like the term 'cook-up'. Don't know why. Just doesn't feel right in on my tongue. I'd prefer to avoid food references altogether, but if it must be food, why not Clam Bake, or Taffy Pull, or Fish Fry, or BBQ, or Fondu Party? Hell, we could call it a Circle Jerk, but we probably shouldn't put Bill's name on that. You both seem to have assumed that I hadn't looked at the list of Acronyms on the FAQ section of the site. Well, I did look at it. That's why I added the initialisms that I did - because they ain't there on the site. (Yes, I know C&CI and OtF are in Section II, but they are not on the acronyms list where I would think most people would expect to find them) I was attempting to assist, not duplicate. Hence my statement/question: "Perhaps these could be added to the FAQ page on the site". The list on the site is a good one, but by no means definitive, and could be improved with addition of the terms we have been commonly using lately. FWIW, and on a perhaps pedantic note, a vast majority of the terms in the FAQ in part VI are not acronyms. They are initialisms. An acronym forms a word. Such as SCUBA - meaning Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus; or WHO meaning World Health Organisation. I also think that the site could be improved if the various sections of the FAQ could be hyperlinked so one can jump straight to the appropriate section rather than having to scroll down. Sorry to sound defensive, and maybe I could have worded my original message more carefully. And Matt, I share your frustration when listees do ask questions which are clearly answered on the site. His point about choosing the "nice guy" award is very well-taken. I'd rather judge Nationals 1/48 single-engine Mustangs with all the contenders looking over my shoulders - it'd be easier! As one of the other two who wouldn't be nominated (Oh, I don't know, if we all self-identified on this, perhaps we could reduce the number of contenders :-)), it is a point. I have just tonight nominated this list to eight people who e-mailed me privately after a post at HyperScale today about Albatri where I mentioned the cook-up, telling them to go to the WW1 Page and subscribe to The List, that yes it's hard to do it so exactly, but on the other side of the door is "the best model club on the planet." And that's the truth. I got invited to join this about a year previous to when I did, and replied I had too many e-mails to respond to as it was (as editor of an internet pub we won't mention). Now, I'd say 70% of my mailbox is stuffed with the stuff that comes from here, and it's what I look forward to! While I realize I am doing a good impersonation of a weathercock here (his idea is good - no, hers is - no theirs is), E has really hit the nail on the head, and we really should think about what he has put forth. There are many of you who really did know Bill, and I think if the bunch of you will post some one thing that - to you - is "the essence of Bill as I knew him", we'll see a pattern, and the right thing will emerge. I'm pretty sure though that E is right and it's not an award. Past that, the weathercock awaits some wind (believe me, with 92F at 2315, I *really* need some!). I would say that fiddling with this stuff is far better for my health and the health of those around me than the other things an obsessive personality with too much time on its hands that is also resident in Hollywierd could come up with (and has on occasion). I really wish screenwriters could get more than 3 months employment per year (when they're extremely lucky). As far as what went across the workbench earlier than 20 years ago, most has been thankfully turned into the boxes and boxes of spare parts I have. Diego's - http://members.xoom.com/OTprojects/build_dv_df.html Otis's - http://members.xoom.com/OTprojects/build_dv_og.html Nigel's - http://members.xoom.com/OTprojects/build_dv_nr.html Otis in particular has 17 photos already and he hasnt put on the top wing yet, so it is a pretty well documented visually as a build. So if people doing the build have in-situ photos or feel like writing some in-situ text dont be scared to send them in, they will be put up all right.
