It could be an award voted on by listmembers after nominations are made. Just a thought. Regarding Testors, we need to tell them we are no longer using their products and why. If there is one thing the "NET" is good for, it is organizing a boycott. Regardless of how you feel on the siubject, a majority of us use or have used Testors, gthey are quality paints and we can probably, for the most part, afford them. We shouldn't be held hostage however. If they get enough letters, emails or calls and see their sales drop off, they WILL, believe me, change their pricing policy. Don't justify their actions by supporting them. First, farewell Bill and condolences to his family. Although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting or corresponding with him, it is obvious he was a fine man. It is sad when the group loses a friend in these circumstances but rewarding to see the affection in which he was held by many. Second, one colour rib tapes. Very sensible point Shane. I tend to agree, and both the Pfalz DXII and Fokker DVII in Le Bourget have the same colour rib tapes ("pink", although dusky red is a better description) on upper and lower surfaces. Admittedly these are restored aircraft, but it's some circumstantial evidence at least. Finally, the cook up - I agree with Bob L. Let's get this one finished first. I'm progressing really slowly (I hope to be done by Sept) but there don't seem to be many pics of actiual models on the site yet. I expected to be one of the last!! Then, and only then, should we agree on the next one. But Bob, a word of advice - there aren't any goals in baseball.....:-) Cheers, Nigel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 13:16:27 -0600 From: "Dale Sebring" To: Subject: Re: Next Cook-up Message-ID: <003d01c003c8$a6fb3f40$c6b58dd0@main> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ernest Thomas" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 11:00 PM Subject: Re: Next Cook-up > Just to throw in my own .02 sack of severed heads, why don't we make the > subject much broader; Built whatever you want in your fantasy markings. > I'm not trying to suggest something that I already have a finished model > for(because I'm not finished with the tigers yet) but it sure was fun > doing the D-VII and every one can build whatever kit they want. > E. > That sounds like a great idea E. While I was at work, I was reading the many posts about Bill. We have some eloquent writers here, and it is obvious that Bill was a friend to all of us, one way or another. Someone suggested that list members, as a group, might want to contribute to Bill's selected charity the "Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum". I read that a list member reasonably asked why not contribute to a Texas organization instead. In Pensacola, when Bill learned I was from Canada, he told me he had many friends up here and visited them every year. I am assuming that this was his connection with the CWHM and, as it was his family's request (probably at Bill's instruction) I have no desire to second-guess his request. Finally, as I am on this side of the border, I would like to volunteer my services to collect the donations assuming, of course, that the list has no objections. As Al pointed out, this sort of thing needs to be done ASAP, so I would propose a cut-off date of Sept. 5 at which time I will convert all the donations into Canadian dollars, forward them to the museum on behalf of the "WWI modellers", and give an accounting to the list. However, here's an idea: try a drop of white glue. It might give you enough of a flt effect. Don't add water - if you need to thin it, add Windex or a window cleaner. I'll try it myself tonight, but it's just so nutty, it'll probably work! Interplane struts fit fine. But I couldn't tell you if the cabanes fit ok as I couldn't find the tiny little holes for the struts once I'd covered them up with lozenge. I found the holes for the interplane struts just fine, but the cabane locators just disappeared. Something I should mention is that the front part of the turtle deck (probably not the right term -- it's the top part of the fuselage from the cockpit forward) was too long by about 4 mm. I put the rear turtle deck on first, then tried to fit the forward part on. I clipped it off where it hung out over the bow, er, firewall. It's possible that this would have made the fuselage deeper. Landing gear struts were delicate, but I couldn't find the locator holes for these either. Not sure they were there in the first place. The worst problem I had was removing struts from the sprue. These are delicate little guys. I broke the interior struts on the sprue trying to remove them with sprue cutters. I sawed away the interplane struts, but managed to break one leg of an "N" in the process of bending the other leg. I scratched an "N" to replace it. She's a right purty little plane. I'm takin' 'er down to the Fort Worth Show tomorrow. We'll see how she does. Marc ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 2538 **********************
