The computer and camera are talking to each other. Plan B was put into operation. The serial port conflict is still not resolved so we went with a USB external reader and the results were good. The close up capability of this camera is astonishing. I can shoot as close as one inch and everything shows. Come to think about it, that may not be a good idea. Now you can see all of my mistakes. :-) A DSL hub is being picked up today and my computer will be linked to the DSL line. Then all of my information on the old hard drive will be transferred over and I will be able to go on line again and look at all of the neat things everyone is talking about. I will also be able to update my web site and show off the neat pictures this camera is capable of. While waiting for the computer and camera to bond, I completed the Airfix DH-4 for a customer. Nothing fancy: 100% OOB. Now that I've warmed up, now I can get to some serious model building. :-) Dennis Ugulano email: Uggies@compuserve.com http://members.xoom.com/Uggies/DJU.HTM ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 08:58:38 -0400 (EDT) From: Allan Wright To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: How to hide sins Message-ID: <200007131258.IAA08123@pease1.sr.unh.edu> > Other than all the usual tricks (Two in one box, waiting til SWMBO is out etc) I > must confess that I once resorted to using a fishing line to bring a bag of kits > from the back garden !! I use it alot. Americal/Gryphon - see above comment as to their quality. The only drawbacks are that A/G has no website, and some of his stuff can be a tad out of register. However, once applied, this mis-registration is barely noticable. Plus, I hear that A/G has some of the best customer service going as well as a wide selection of different loz in different scales. AeroMaster's lozenge looks like a Mardi Gras costume - too TOO damned bright IMNSHO, as well as that 'in the Fall' attitude; they don't much like me as I have called several times to point out errors in their sheets (ErrorMesster). And they were slated to reprint their loz decals about 2 years ago 'in the Fall). At least that's what they told me. Have a good one! It's kind of OT, since parachutes were part of the equipment of our folks by the end of the war - at least the Teutonic ones - so a bit of research on the development of the concept is historical research, right? :-) I will say that, to me, this is further proof that people who jump out of airplanes on purpose where the wings are still attached and the engine is working and there is no fire are completely craaaaaaaaaazy! Tom Cleaver (who had to jump 3 times to qualify as aircrew and was pushed each time) Briton defies doubters to pilot parachute designed in 1485 By David Derbyshire, Science Correspondent A BIZARRE contraption of wooden poles, canvas and ropes was launched from two miles high yesterday by a Briton who had nursed a lifelong ambition to prove that Leonardo da Vinci invented the first working parachute. Adrian Nicholas floats above the plantations of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa in his parachute of canvas and wooden poles Adrian Nicholas ignored the advice of experts who told him that the 187lb design would not fly. Strapped in a harness to which four thick ropes were strung beneath a frame of pine poles covered in canvas, Mr Nicholas was hoisted by a balloon 10,000ft above southern Africa. The balloon dropped altitude for a few seconds, filling the parachute with air, before the harness was released. There was no sudden fall or dramatic swinging and the parachute floated gently through the skies. Its descent was so slow that two parachutists accompanying Mr Nicholas's attempt twice had to brake to stay level. Mr Nicholas said: "The whole experience was incredibly moving. Looking down I could see Mozambique and the sugar cane and fruit plantations below us. It didn't feel like I was under a modern parachute at all. They descend forward and push wind into your face. The sensation was like floating under a balloon. It gently suspended me and it didn't twist and turn." Mr Nicholas, 38, fell for around 7,000ft, with a black box recorder measuring his five-minute descent, before cutting himself free and releasing a conventional parachute. The Leonardo device floated to the ground and was not badly damaged. Last night, its builder and Mr Nicholas's girlfriend, Katarina Ollikainen, was checking it before a repeat drop today in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 15:11:01 -0300 From: "dfernet0" To: Subject: RE: Lozenge Decals Message-ID: <008201bfecf5$b3c46b00$4640a8c0@ssp.salud.rosario.gov.ar> Dave said: > If you are doing 1/48 scale (and aren't we all): That's insulting! ;-) D. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 14:49:02 -0400 From: mdf To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: Workbench Pics aka also looking for Message-ID: <396E0F1E.9089DF1F@mars.ark.com> just fold the boxes up and put them all inside the largest box...when they are back home unfold them and no probs :) great for getting them through customs as well. Nice LITTLE piece of plastic! DB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 14:43:27 -0500 From: "DAVID BURKE" To: Subject: Re: Not Going to the Nats :-( but.... Message-ID: <002601bfed02$a0134c40$0c82aec7@dora9sprynet.com> I reckon that they will announce the dates for Chicago at Dallas, and thence in the IPMS newsletter. Me, I think that the Nats should me in the upper-Midwest every year. Face it, Chicago is within 12 hours driving of most of the U.S. and a good chunk of Canada. And though I would like to visit the left coast, and FL, I would have to fly. I don't like to fly. In airliners. I hate airports, and I know that I would get my models in powdered form (just add water, stir, and voila! instant-mess!). I like meeting up with folks, those I know, know on the 'net, or have never even heard of. And the more, the merrier. I hate it when distance keeps us all from getting together and having fun. I'm even tempted to go to the IPMS Canada shindig (depending on where it is, although I'd drive to Ottowa - one of the prettiest cities in North America IMHO). Where was this going? Oh yeah. I wish that they'd keep the U.S. IPMS Nats in the central U.S. because we can all get to it in a reasonable fashion, and I'm looking forward to Chicago so that our Canadian brethren can come down . I don't know why I'm in such a good mood - must be the fumes from the primer I just sprayed....
