After some experimentation I can get acceptable shots, but not great ones. The pros are the ability to get it into the computer quickly.and the fact that there are no processing costs. Using Alkaline batteries is very expensive. There are ac adapters and card readers available for the download and I bought a set of Ni MH batteries and a charger from Radio Shack. Once I run the equivalent of 30 rolls of film, I will have paid for the camera in film savings. The closeup lens and filters available make this about all the camera I'll need. Also it is so light that the cheap crap tripod I have is plenty sturdy. You can either borrow my negatives and make yourself a set of prints, or I can make a few scans. I did more or less a walk.around of the last. The snag is that I am currently working onboard the R/V Ramform Viking steaming from Brazil to Norway, so I can not send you negatives or scans until I get home in late April. If you are interested even if it takes some time, drop me a line here at: VIKSproc@oslo.pgs.com and copy it to my home address: knut.erik.hagen@eunet.no - if you want me to send you the negatives, then I will need your Snail address as well. Sorry for not being able to help you on short notice, but that isn`t a kit to be rushed, think there was an article on how to build it in SAM years ago. If I make scans, is there somebody else who are interested in a set? Please answer off-list, because I am able to access to the list only as long as we are within satellite coverage giving us www access. I have an ancient kit of the Caudron G3. Not sure of the scale but the top wing is about a foot long. It's one of those odd multi-media kits - some sort of weird resin/fibreglass material and metal struts. Everything screws together and you're provided with sheets of yellow self adhesive linen. The engine is gorgeous, lovely details and about two inches in diametre Suffice to say it's very old and a pain in the proverbials to build, even after I chucked out the linen, scratch built replacement struts and figured out how to ignore the directions for the 'realistic working control surfaces' (neat for some but to make it work the control lines are woefully inaccurate.) Annyway, I'm trying to find some good reference materials on colour options, cockpit interiors etc, preferably on-line. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 21:02:13 -0500 From: smperry@mindspring.com To: Subject: Re: What's (OT) on the work bench? Here here Nigel I bought a Sony Mavica for under $300 US and am absolutely pleased. Earlier comments on controlling F-stop and such almost don't apply with today's super outsmart the photographer computerized SLRs. They do it for you unless you learn all the overrides. The sony was my choice for three reasons: Has a lithium battery that runs for 120 minutes nominal. Hold all of the images on a standard floppy, no special cables and interfaces. and when you lay the camera down leaning it's lens against something IT'S IN FOCUS AT MM distance. Please see my old 1/72 VeeDay D-VIII on the web page. Also something that's missing is the use of an "adjusting" program like Adobe Photo shop. Just like the old days in the dark room, this step is essential for cleaning up the digital images. So in other words. I'm happy with mine! The most common digital media being the World Wide Web. Print media requires higher resolutions, analogue camera's will be used for that for a while to come yet. >1. Pathetic resolution Most Monitors run at 640X480, the next largest is 800X600. So a graphic above those resolutions doesnt make sense anyway. 1600 is pretty much the max and 1600X1200 jpg at about 15% compression gets above the 500Kb mark, which is a noticeable wait for a download. Anything above 800X600 becomes a long wait on a 33.6 connection. General rule is 60Kb's per HTML page which includes everything on that page ( including the .thml file ) makes the download time to page display bearable for the average netizen. >2. Low capacity At low resolution ( ie web resolutions) it holds as many as 36 on my 4 Mb card, same as an analogue camera. As memory chips get cheaper to manufacture they will hold more. Moores law will apply to the memory chips too, more so if they get standardised across Camera's. >4. Poor control of exposure >6. Uncertain colour balance Doesnt matter when ppl have their Monitors set to all sorts of crazy settings for colour, brightness etc. What I call blue my mother calls purple due to her weirdo monitor settings she likes. Anything that can be digitized will be, for images that need to be digitized quickly for the web, the tool is the digital camera. It more fits the webs limitations than anything else. Anything that there is no advantage to being digitized will remain analogue. In the same way during the last revolution the things where there was no advantage industrializing remained done with a craftsmans hand. cam ______________________________________________________________ Get Your Free E-mail and Homepage at http://www.prontomail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 09:14:20 +0200 From: "Alberto Casirati" To: Subject: Re: Spin Spad A2 & A4 Message-ID: <007501bf994e$68e37860$320106c0@acasirat> Dear Dale, here is the URL I use: http://www.hannants.co.uk/cgi-bin/home_n.pl All the best, Alberto Casirati ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dale Beamish" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Tuesday, March 28, 2000 5:59 PM Subject: Re: Spin Spad A2 & A4 > Anyone have a web address for Hannants? > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Sandy Adam > To: Multiple recipients of list > Sent: 28 March, 2000 8:42 AM > Subject: Spin Spad A2 & A4 > > > > Hannants have pics of the box art for these two in Advance Bookings. > > Sandy > ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 09:12:03 +0200 From: Witold Kozakiewicz To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: Spin Spad A2 & A4 Message-ID: <38E1ACC3.E176A43C@bgamld.bg.am.lodz.pl> Dale Beamish napisa³(a): > > Anyone have a web address for Hannants? http://www.hannants.co.uk/ HTH, -- Witold Kozakiewicz ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 01:06:36 -0600 From: "DAVID BURKE" To: Subject: Spad XIII Info needed too! I'm also of the fence sitting breed. I use a 35 mm camera but have used the small Digicam my wife had from her work. Both seem to work fine for close up shots. Alas my wife just left her job with the radio station so I am presently digicam-less - the digicam was to take shots of politicians at news conferences for the radio station website. Lucky for me I work at a newspaper up here. I'm very careful to shamelessly suck up to the photography boys., I get them to take pictures, scan the negatives with a Nikon Sprint Scan, enhance the images to maximumse colour and clarity, and give me the Jpegs on disc. But as Lee said, if you want good digital images but don't want a Digicam, just get the film processed at Walmart or somewhere like that. Most processers will now give you your images on disc or CD. I get mine back complete with a little diskette of a lesser version of Adope Photoshop software, meaning I can fiddle with the picture a little - not that I would deliberatly erase any flaws of course ;-). Bottom line is whether you go digital or stay analog and get your pix back on disk, there's no reason more of your models shouldn't find their way on-line. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 07:09:25 -0700 From: "Dale Beamish" To: "List" Subject: Spin Spad A3 / A4 Message-ID: <009701bf9988$76808780$03000004@darcy> Has anyone seen the kit as yet? Although at times I'm sure there were both examples. Anyone know for sure? Just seems to make sense from a consistency standpoint, although we all know that those guys werfen't necessarily consistent when it came to lozenge. > > Otis > ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 09:02:18 -0600 From: "Harris, Mack" To: "'World War I'" Subject: roland c11 whale Message-ID: I've started building the 1/72 Roland C11 by airfix. Seems to be a pretty nice little kit, but boy, info on this airplane is sparse. Were there just not very many made, was it a crummy airplane or what? I know I should buy the datafile, but I'm cheap, what can I say. I've got the few profiles done, (mostly by Bob) I've looked at the pic on the site of the replica, any other ideas of where to look? Any help would be appreciated and if anyone has built this kit anything to look out for.
