I sanded the kit supplied center piece to accommodate the thickness of the cover pieces and added the additional battens and rigging visible through the clear covering. Tacked the covering down with tiny dabs of CA. Cut the clear pieces using the wing cut-out itself as patterns. Careful cutting, a little dry fitting and trimming/sanding and everything went just great. I sprayed the upper and lower wings a Testor's flat aluminum/light gray mix. When it dried I masked the upper surface edges with .02" wide strips of drafting tape and sprayed the upper surface camoflage (dark green, dark brown). Anyway, its one of my favorite kits. Today they are running Aces High at 6 and 9pm PST (9pm/midnight EST), later in the week is a biography on 'Wop' May. Without looking through the TV guide I know that the previous episode was on at 6am this morning .. a quick glance shows 'The Canadians' scheduled at various times throughout the week, so a heads up to those getting the History Channel (Canada) that one episode this week will contain OT material. Ooo just found another ... The Learning Channel is repeating (reruns - who would have thought it) the great books series today as well .. and one episode is on 'All Quiet on the Western Front' at 5 & 8pm PST. Guess my evening viewing after Buffy, the Vampire Slayer is now scheduled. Message-ID: <002301bf7b45$79a85ca0$8ca24d0c@rogerb1> I am a novice at 1/72 modeling compared to most of the list. I have been working on a Sopwith Baby by Edouard. I have got the cockpit finished but find that the wing and cabane struts are very fragile to rig. I flattened brass rod it substitute for these, the worked out pretty well, it came time to rig the wings. I used .006 brass wire by Detail Associates and drilled a # 78hole in the appropriate places and threaded it through and glued it with ACC but when I pulled it to tighten it it came unglued then I took a small soldering iron put the wire in the first hole and tightened the wire, I touched the wire with the iron and the heat traveled up the wire and welded it to the plastic wing, I proceeded to finish it in the same manner and I like the method. It does not harm the plastic and you can get it tight. FOUR sets of decals including one set of loz. The colours appear to have been changed from their earlier ghastly efforts though not as much as I'd like. OTOH, if you like some "scale effect" the lower loz is a somewhat muted version of 1:1 and the upper a rather faded version, so they may be okay. Michael Sigmans machine (Black, white stars, and an "S" on a plane wood band) is my favourite, though many will want to make "Stropp". Loz is in chordwise fashion which is correct for that machine. The other two options are a red&white Jasta 18 machine and Kurt Waldhausens with star and crescent Jasta 37 machine. IIRC, these are two D.V and two D.Va Enough brass to make a very complete cockpit, etched gun jackets, belts and some other external detail including the D.V aileron actuators. Incidentally, the lower wing has all the access panels appropriate to a D.Va, so some will need removal to be correct for a D.V, and the upper wing lacks the cutouts and aileron horns appropriate to a D.Va and will most easily make a D.V. IMHO these are reasonable compromises to get both versions from one kit, and 99% of the buyers won't know the difference anyway Nice kit - BOTH of them. Matt is right, all the teeny people and we swingers should buy lots.
