In fact you should ask for replacement or return it. If however you think that they should improve there process that's different, its a matter of opinion, they may not improve because they want to stay in the market they are in where as long as they have reasonable quality control and replace defective parts they have been and are still successful. The capital outlay and production costs in the UK may prohibit Pegasus/BM from competing with the improved quality of Eduard. That said I have quite collection of the recent BlueMax (DH2, Pfalz DXII, Bristol Fighter, Roland CII Nieuport 28, Camel, and SE5a - Pegasus Macchi M5 etc), most have been reasonable models. Its only lately compared to Eduards newer (last year or so) that BlueMax has been left behind. Even on that point I would argue that they are not being left behind. They have improved there quality. Compare the SE5a to there Pfalz DIIIa of 5 years ago. Now if its value for money then I agree with you, but I would say they are no worse than Aeroclub, and just about all the other limited issue or resin models in 1/48th scale. To be fair though it costs a fair amount to produce a model that is only going to have a circulation of two or three thousand units. Just as an aside I have had to return a model to pegasus, it was replaced with no problem, which seemed good customer service to me. Itr was originally desigend for use by draftsmen in th makng of plans and quickly came to be ued by architects in the prepe]a]eration of drawings made wit airbrushes and such. for more than 50 years I ha used it as a low tack mask for Plastic models. with a lot of care one color (each) stencils can be made and each layer remove and the next very carefull aligned. Years ago I did the Hellhound under the canopy rails (both sides) of a dreaded Me 09 thingie in 48th scale in red and the white outline with a fine pen.All surface details were paint. I also did the Swiss Stork Squadron planes with all details on the planes in paint. No decals. It is sold in most good Art supply stores Not extra cheap but not to bad. I bought it in 25 foot rolls 3 feet wide and I am still using some I got in 1966. Kept it in a cool dry dark place and have SARAN Wrap with rubber bands over both ends of the cardboard tube. Has kept well Great for flat or gentley curved surface Camo. Takes several pieces for compuoound curves and it's pretty good for canopies. I really started to use it a lot when I got my first airbrush in 1961. Some hobby shops sold it for about a dollar per 8.5 X 11 sheet but I have no idea who does it now. I suppose we agree to disagree. :-) I still think it's aluminum dope. Look at the "sheen" and "shade" of the edging compared to the cowl. Pretty close. Take into effect that the fabric is naturally going to be "duller" in appearance than the cowl, and I think the edging is aluminum. Plus, in the middle photo on page 4, look at the edging compared to the foot step. Again, take into effect the different "sheens" of the metal versus the fabric, and I would say aluminum. As much as I like the books I cannot afford to buy them from booksellers in the States sice there's a typical charge of 30% for postage and on top of that I have to pay Customs tax, so those take care of any discount the seller might be offering. FMP's price included postage and were much more ressonable. I > have a question, have the people who bought these models > contacted pegasus at there email addy. > As the originator of the 'complaint' about the DH2 I must hold up my hands in horror. I made two statements, one concerning a flaw in the trailing edge of the upper wing, the other regarding the wall thickness of the nacelle. A couple of days later I reported that I had eliminated the flaw with a little gentle sanding, with no discernable thickening of the trailing edge. Anyone who has bought any Pegasus kit, with the possible exception of the Macchi M5, would know to expect thick walls in the fuselage. This is inherent not only in Pegasus kits, but also in any other make of limited run limited tooling injection kits. Now I find that the kit is condemned as a 'bad' model. Matt complained about the wing, and received or will receive a replacement. I have not contacted Pegasus because I did not think the flaw in my kit was serious enough to warrant so doing. No one has complained about any inaccuracy in size or outline. I cannot speak about the Blue Max kit as I have never bought one. I am afraid that in future I will not be commenting on any kit unless it has serious major faults, and I have contacted the manufacturer about them. As a modeller, as opposed to a kit assembler, I have yet to come across the 'perfect' kit which needs no remedial action on my part. For what it's worth, Britain is also in this bug's grip. Huh! You get away with one bug just to pick up another. Get well soon. I wanted to ask how the control wheel worked, with that fixture that looks like a bike gear. Besides, the "observer" cockpit has no seat nor controls of any type. I assume that the Start was modified to be a one seater? Then add to it the pesticides in the air here in the San Joaquin valley of California (major agriculture), we have a large number of lung problems here. I hope you get better soon. I'm getting better but the cough is hanging on. I made an innocent statement that was soon blown way out of proportion. (Not here but in another place a long time ago.) I am a major fan of Pegasus and have been since kit # 1. They all have their problems but nothing that I have found that could not be corrected with a little work. All short run injection kits are thick so I thin them with a Dremel. I overlook a lot of flaws(sic) in short run kits because I was here in the beginning when they really were hard to work with. (Ask anyone who has ever built a Veeday kit) But there was nothing else and we learned to live with them. Now with the exceptional kits coming out of Europe, Pegasus may have lost some of its luster. And if Mr. Gannon's attitude is as some have stated, that can turn people off. But I like his kits and will continue to buy them as long as the quality stays at its present level. In fact I just placed my order for my DH-2's with this mailing. Please all be carefull cos this is no joke. I missed a total of 13 days of work in Nov-Dec ended up with Pneumonia but pulled through and I am now healthy. EVERYONE in my office (the last few just now) have had some sort of Flu or sickness. Working at a university really guarantees you'll get exposed to all the bad stuff each year. BTW, I'm back to work and there were no really Y2K emergencies, looks like at least UNH did an adequate job of being pro-active about this. If you sent me anything the past 2 weeks, you will have to re-send it. With over 1,000 e-mail messages in my mailbox when I came back I had to just read the work-related ones and purge.....sorry. On topic, my millenium resolution: to complete all the in-process work on my bench: 2X Toko Snipe, Alb C-II Vac, Pegasus Bristol M-1, Roseplane Alb. Dr-I Conversion, 2X Esci Nieuport 17C, 25 British 25mm infantry, w/field piece, 22 German 25mm infantry.....a full year's work indeed! -Allan =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | "Without love, life's just a long fight" - SSJ University of New Hampshire+--------------------------------------------------- Research Computing Center | WWI Modeling mailing list: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Internet: aew@unh.edu | WWI Modeling WWW Page: http://pease1.sr.unh.edu =============================================================================== ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 2068 **********************
