Recently I needed to paint my Albatros D.Va with an odd color of grey. Some list members helped point me towards the correct FS number. Luckily I had a bottle of matching grey Polly Scale. Then I tried another trick I learned from this group. I added a good measure of Future after thinning with alcohol. The stuff is amazing. It didn't clog my airbrush plus I had a tiny run underneath the horizontal stab that disappeared as the paint dried. The leveling powers of Future is fantastic. I love Future floor wax because it is so idiot resistant. Also, thanks to the group for all the help making another successful model. Later! However, I suspect I am typical of many on this list in that I have not yet been able to document all of the books and journals in my library. I may well have the item cited, but have not yet had the chance to read it from cover to cover and record the references. Also, I hope we are not all recording exactly the same information from the very same sources. In my case, I have particularly tried to record references to persons and particular aircraft found in biographies and other sources not often indexed. So, even with similar libraries, we may actually generate different listings for the same topic. << Unless and until someone gets approval from all copyright holders to include more than just the statement that something about suchandsuch appeared in whatever publication I cannot see much point in a communal database. >> As others have already mentioned - copyright is not an issue for simple lists of what is available and, frankly, I dont want a database that contains much more than that. These things get very big, very fast. To date (and keep in mind I only started in August of last year) my pilot's database has over 20,000 entries, and my serial number database doesnt have a count, but it is getting large, too. Unfortunately, I use a network of linked WORD documents to store my information, so it isnt directly transferrable to a database of the traditional kind. If anyone has anything they would like me to check for them, please just say the word. The real joy in something like this is being able to use it. And.... the 11th commandment for this sort of stuff..... DO FREQUENT BACKUPS. I'm working in 1/28 scale. Get an ALPS printer. But where we get one in Brisbane is a problem, they aren't sold in Australia at all. They *may* be sold under another companies brand name, but haven't found them yet :-( Shane ************************************************************** The information contained in this E-Mail is confidential and is intended only for the use of the addressee(s). Message-ID: <001301bf0d7a$c3d5c080$c7847ed4@lensmith> Greetings, May I clear up one point please. I am NOT worried about copyright on databases, only on the possible use of material which is used in the reply to any query. I have used inter library loan facilities in the past, which is fine for book searches, but not many libraries keep copies of exotic foreign magazines. Also, as mentioned elsewhere, I am a computer illiterate moron and proper databases scare the living daylights out of me! All mine is is a list on Wordpad (?) with a "find" facility. Works for me though.
