As to matching the colors in general, I use a system similar to what many have discussed in the past week -- I spray 3 x 5 index cards with any new color or mixture. I can use those to find a reasonably close mix or at least a base to experiment with. If possible, I try to paint a dab of the mixture onto an unused decal of the same color, if it "disappears" I'm there. Sometimes I keep those written down, otherwise, they are on the fly mixes. Eduard blue for French markings is exactly the same as Testors Model Master French Blue (clever, no?). The red is similar to Humbrol "Signal Red" (I forget the number) with a small touch of white. Testors Model Master Guards Red and Italian Red are also close, with a mixture of about 60:40 being close enough to hide most sins. British blue is very close to Humbrol #25 Matt Blue with a little white. Actually, I have been painting my rudder stripes for my last several projects, but I was working on one where I had had to interrupt building in spurts and starts due to other necessary work and had reached the point where I wanted to start decaling (thats when everything on the model starts coming alive for me), when I realized I hadn't painted this one's rudder. I decided to go ahead and use the decals, they were very reputable and I hadn't had problems with any of them before -- no luck this time. As to matching the colors in general, I use a system similar to what many have discussed in the past week -- I spray 3 x 5 index cards with any new color or mixture. As long as you get it close, the difference won't be noticeable if the rudder colour sare marginally different from the roundels. One day, I'm going to try and do the roundels using a frisket, compass etc. Michael mkendix@worthen.ihcrp.georgetown.edu ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 10:37:06 EDT From: BEN8800@aol.com To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Scanning photos Message-ID: Many of you birds seem to know a lot about scanning pictures. I output it in true color. That's the best you're going to get with a scanner not MEANT to scan slides. The best you can to to help it is to maximize the resolution of the scanner and get what you can out of it. =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | You fell victim to one of the 'classic' blunders! So to avoid the 500+ messages that I got after the Nats, I'm disconnecting. Talk to y'all later... However, it would have been nice to have had a few more awards or mentions on the WWI table. There was a lot of really nice stuff there. And I always liked the Walrus (goo goo ga joob). But so many messages like "that's great Joe" or "congrats" is certainly a nice thing to do, but maybe a personal note would be better than sending it to the whole list. Just my observations. Take along a couple Eduards or Blue Max. You may have time.
