I view the 4 color ones as highly suspect compared to either Americal or Pegasus, though I think the 5-color look pretty good. In reading the Albatros Anthology, it looks like there were an awful lot of D.VIIs in 5 color, so check your references closely. Since we're on the subject, did anyone BUT Fokker use 4 color? Thetford tells me that it was developed in 1916, only 26 were supplied to the German Navy, and most of them flew from the Angernsee in Courland. Does anyone have a more precise date for entering service? I have information about a Russian vs. German seaplane encounter there on July 31 and am trying to learn if these might be the planes involved.
