Of course, it concentrated on his WW2 deeds, but it seemed to reflect that he was vaguely human. He was truly a pitiful individual, though I don't know about 'thoroughly hated', but a sorry excuse, definately. Hermann Goering is the lesson: believe that you know everything, take no advice from any quarter, build the cult of personality, and your once thick foundations become as slight as a sheet of paper, and blow away or burn. Oh, and don't forget the fashion disasters! DB -----Original Message----- From: Sandy Adam To: Multiple recipients of list Date: Saturday, July 17, 1999 5:06 AM Subject: Re: Re: "Major" not Oblt. I think that the Fokker D.II is not quite up to Sierra's excellent standards. I say this only because the corners on the slab sided fuselage are a bit too blunt for my taste. My model is in at a stage where all the major parts are finished, ready to be painted and joined up. I ended up not using any of the Sierra parts because: 1) The Sierra fuselage had "soft" corners and the front end of the D.III is slightly different than the D.II 2) The D.III had a longer cowl and cooling vents on the front. 3) Someone gave me an incomplete Eduard E.III kit from which I got the stabilizer, rudder, wheels, interior detail, etc. 4) I had scratchbuilt wings before I realized Sierra had a Fokker D.II. Other comments on my project: ** I made drew up templates in CorelDraw for the fuselage sides and also for the front of the cowl. The drawing of the front end of the cowl really helped me get the cooling vents aligned. ** The front turtledeck came from the Eduard kit but the rear one was thick plastic, filed and sanded to the right shape. ** The wings were made using the sandwiched balsa-Harry Woodman procedure except that instead of using thin styrene for the skin, I used acetate, the type used to make transparencies for overhead projectors. I can't seem to get thin styrene over here so used acetate as a substitute. before scoring rib stations into the acetate I sand the inside surface with 150 grit to provide "tooth" for the glued surface and I sand the outside surface with 400 grit to provide "tooth" for the paint. Instead of using double sided tape, I use rubber cement. I use superglue for the trailing edge. to shape the wingtips, I use a comination of super glue and plastic scraps, which, when set hard, I file and sand to shape. The acetate gives me really thin trailing edges. >I'm building Sierra's DII and Bob Norgen's suggestion in the instructions is >to use only the top vac for each wing due to the thin profile of the >original. I've got the parts cut out and scratchbuilt a new fuselage >(seemed easier than treating the rounded corners) will use the turtledeck >and cowling deck from Bob's kit.
