The Nieto plans are very close to the factory plans I have, but there are differences. But they may still be right. There were many minor changes made to the Jenny so its hard to say if the factory plans I have is the only way it was done. there could have been many revisions of the plans and I only have one version. How do you realy know. Nieto supposedly had a lot of info from authorities, but for example, the spacing of the wing ribs on my factory plans differ from Nietos plans but not by much, like 13-1/2" vs. 14 or 14-1/2". Also, some of the minor stiffening between ribs is a little different. The main spars are the same. One interesting difference in Nietos and factory plans, is the number of lightening holes in the wing ribs between the two main spars. Nieto shows 5 holes, and factory 4 holes. I'm going with the 4 holes as I have other sources to verify it. But question is, was Nieto wrong? Or, at one time did some ribs have the 5 holes. Another thing I found out that varied in the Jenny is the rudder. Some had all wooden rudders and some rudders made of tubing. The factory drawings I have show the tubing version. Research is fun but frustrating. Although I am a professional ship model builder, I build quite a few airplanes. RC plus static. I built the Hasagawa Camel structural model kit (big but nice). I hung it from ceiling in my office cause couldn't figure anywhere else to put it. I bought the kit from Model Expo a number of years ago at $214. That kit is now $900 (sale $699). Wow! I also buiild plastic models and have a number of WW1 types. 1/28, 1/48, 1/72. Gave up on 1/72, too damn small. I wish there were more kits available in the 1/28-1/32 range. Better to detail but I would probably not have room to keep them. I rig with silk or nylon thread. Always airbrush planes. I NEVER complain about us going off-topic (I notice it is cyclical and, given a chance, will find its own level again) and I dont feel I should comment on the tone of the list because I am not one of the veterans of this list by any means, but am I the only one who is rather disturbed about the direction the french thread has taken? Aside from the broader question of ethnic-based comments, I know we have francophone list members, and the last couple of posts made me cringe. Sorry, if I sound like I'm no fun at all, but its my two cents worth... I really don't think that I can seriously fault the French as a whole, and to their credit they never retreated as fast as the Italians. I think the average French person is as decent an individual as any American. I have, however, also run into the 'Stupid Americans, phooey!' type, and I do remind them that it was miraculous that under occupation by the Nazis, there was an inordinate number of collaborators, and they became Partisans as soon as Ike hit the Normandy beach. The last SS troops to protect Hitler was a French unit. Some of the most active neo-Nazi groups are French, and they sell a whole lot of stuff to my country's enemies and generally raise Hell whenever we want to attack one of them. France sometimes seems to be as much as a thorn in our side as China and Cuba. On the other hand, France, I believe, produced Phillipe Noiret, and he is one of my favorite actors of all time, and takes huge pride in its artistic culture. They also came in and helped save our butts during the Revolution when Lafayette brought in his fleet, forcing the British to surrender. It was two Frenchmen, Iberville and Bienville, who founded New Orleans (although they did it in one of the most ungodly swamps in the world). I hope that we can all get along together, France and the U.S. have a lot of history in common, and we owe each other.
