Hi Y'all! The name's Dave, and I am a styrene junkie! I am primarily a WWII Luftwaffe modeler, and have done extensive research on several different A/C types, most notably late-series FW-190 D's. I also do a bit of Allied stuff as well. However, lately I have been getting more into WWI subjects, as it is a facet of aviation that I know little about. Also I am running out of shelf space, and the stuff is smaller (I work almost exclusively in 1/48 scale)! Of course that would change if I decided to do an Ilya or some of the other bombers. I also think that rigged aircraft look neat, and a well-rigged model is truly impressive to behold. I also like inter-war and Luftwaffe '46 subjects. Luft 46 is nice because it calls less for strict adherence, and is becoming the hobby to balance out my modeling! Ultimately, if anyone deserves the credit (or blame) for getting me into WWI subjects, it would be Bill Koster. I am near completing his 1/48 SSW D IV kit, and through using artist oils, have come up with a nice plywood look on the fuselage. Next in line are a couple of Eduard kits: the Albatross D III and Nieuport 17. They look great in the box, hope I can carry the projects the rest of the way through! What else is there to do in Birmingham, AL anyway? Anyway, looking forward to learning more about the subjects, and hope that some of the tips and stuff that I've learned might help you too. This kit and the Profipack Hanriot HD1/2 will hit Australian shop shelves in the next few weeks (or by Saturday if you live here in Perth. :-) ). I have just gotten the kit along with a copy of the same book (I think by m-hubby and in Russian.) As I look at the book I see that the line on the leading edge is wrong but the rib tape lines are hard to tell. Though my general impression is that the whole mode is on the thick side. I am working on having some one translate the book for me though I am un sure of how long that will take. (yes I will share when I get copies sent to me.) I to found the floatplane version intriguing, though was disappointed to find that the ICM kit was of the pointed noes Varity and the floatplane version was of the stub nose type. (any one know which is molded in the Marquett 1/78 kit?) rob johnson -----Original Message----- From: Brent & Tina Theobald To: Multiple recipients of list Date: Wednesday, May 12, 1999 7:46 PM Subject: Belated Response to Ilya Muromets Question >Someone was interested in the accuracy of the wing on the ICM kit. >According to a book I just got the line running parallel to the leading >edge is incorrect. It's the stirring saga of Stev-En Perry (who refuses to decide which side he's on, dark or light) versus the evil Darth Bittner and his cohort Lord Fernetti. Will he be saved by the forces of the 1:48 Federation headed by Quai-Chang Karr and his faithful dwarves...? Wow. This one is pretty dumb, even for me... oh well, slow night. Amazing that Fokker really never got his workmanship and construction problem worked out until the DVII. Very interesting shot of a EIV in camo colors... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 May 1999 21:32:28 -0500 From: Tom Solinski To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: Belated Response to Ilya Muromets Question Message-ID: <373A39BC.F4D3F167@ionet.net> I have a close friend who is USAF maintenance officer who is very fluent is Russian ( and it's not related to his job, really!) if you send me one or two pertinent paragraphs maybe we can get a quick translation Tom Solinski roguerpj wrote: > I am working on having some one translate the book for me > though I am un sure of how long that will take. > ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 1575 **********************
