Some Italian wine company ("Grappa", I believe - their ad featured the face of a grizzled-looking old guy, teeth missing and everything) gave away "kits" after you'd send in labels of their, uh, "product". Not all WWI, but I believe they are pretty rare little items. Mark mshanks@fltdyn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 May 1999 15:16:58 -0500 From: "Mark L. I wish I did. About a month back, I was putting the last major assemblies on my kitbashed Mono-berg SE.5a. As I was getting the cabane struts in, a tight fit, I knocked off what I thought had been safely attached PE exhaust brackets. I looked for a while, gave it up as a bad hope, and got the wing in place, planning to scratch a new "W"-shaped bracket at a later time. A week later, after several frustrating attempts to make a proper brace, I gave *one* more look, and miracle of miracles, found the piece -- in a carpet, no less! Heaved a sigh of relief, sat back. Put back on all the pieces I had removed for safe-keeping while the wing fit had been worked on. Started to put the brace back on, bumped my magnifier, and dropped it into the carpet again. I walked into the bedroom and told my wife I needed a new hobby. Miraculously, an hour later I gave another search, and found it again! However, the strain on the nerves has had me take a break from bipes for awhile. I wonder how easily that Eduard Morane N goes together........ .Mark. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 May 1999 20:19:46 +0000 From: johnglaser@att.net To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: List Newbie, etc. Message-ID: <19990505202113.GXDC22243@webmail.worldnet.att.net> Super! I've had a very nice time at the Czech Technologic Museum where there are 4 on-topic a/c on display: a bleriot (with a Czech engine), a Tractor LWF-V, an Anatra Anasal and a restored Knoller CII. (I've got pictures of them all so if anyone wants to see them just say so). IIRC there were some voices on the list, in the past, thrashing the Knoller restoration, but to my ignorant eye it looks quite ok. In fact i wish the other a/c could undergo some restoration. The tractor is in pretty bad shape and the Anatra could also benefit from some attention. Could anyone point out again what the trouble with the Knoller was? Was it the colours of the lozenge? BUT the real highlight of my trip was meeting Silverbird Ivan himself and his beautiful daughter Eva. We spent a most enjoyable time chatting and he went through the trouble of driving more than 100 Km after work just to be able to meet me for a couple of hours. Ivan, if you read this, I did appreciate it very much.Dekuji vam. And say dobry den to Eva from me. Ok, time to go and read the almost 200 messages I got on my mail box.
