It had been upgraded with an engine of Paragon and the guns from Aeroclub. The decals were included in the box, and, funny thing, one of the 3 colour (the grey) is transparent to match the grey of the rest of the airplane. The three colours provided are Light Blue, pale grey and (Transparent), Dark Grey. But reading (to late) the Scale Models magazine of Feb 1983, it seems that the exact colours were Grey Blue, Grey Brown and Grey Violet (see Bundesearchive B Nr F5952 of 28 marsh 1917, which is the original paint rules for german sea planes). I do not know the Americal decals, but the Pegasus seems correct to me. To late in my case, but it will be for another airplane ... But here's something to beware of... I've decided to use an engine from Tom's(because it has the springs)but it doesn't quite fit just right. Aside from having a crank case that's too wide for the Eduard engine mount, the aft part of the engine sits too low for the exhaust manifold to clear the top of the fus. So I'm left with the choice of A) shimming the rear part of the engine mount so the manifold will clear, or B) sanding away the top of the fus a bit to make everything fit. Choice A will give the engine a bit of downward thrust which could lead to other problems when it comes time to stick on the prop, while choice B leaves more room for damage caused by a slip of the file. And I'd HATE to screw up this nice molding. And I don't know if using the kit engine would have saved me from this extra bit of work and worry. Sorry... There were at least two color patterns used on the German naval hex fabric - light grey-blue, light blue, and brown -or- light grey-blue, light blue, and mid blue. [These terms are subjective of course and other color descriptions could be substituted with equal accuracy.] While the light blue grey apparently has no FS 595 equivelent, the others are given as: Light blue: FS 35240 Mid blue: FS 35164 Brown: FS 20062 Light grey-blue is a light/medium grey with a decided lilac cast and is listed as Methuen 19C2 Again, I don't think you can go far wrong with the Americal/Gryphon naval hex decal sheets. Admittedly a hasty matching on the FS595 numbers, but they're fairly close, and the bottom line (as we all know) is that after eighty years nobody knows what the colors were when the cloth was new. Dan Abbot used a well-preserved piece of cloth which he got via Peter Grosz, and interestingly the overall effect of this scheme is a sort of beige when viewed from a distance, not all that much different from CDL. They will be found in Temporary Internet Files, in your Windows directory. If you set up, say, a Word doc to store pictures in, you can click "Insert Picture", then "from file" and then browse on over to Windows and Temp Int files then into whichever cache the relevant picture may be in. I've set up a Word pics folder and have a doc for each type of aircaft. Thus the Roland pic started a new Whale doc and awaits anything else on C.II that might appear. Sandy PS make sure, if you ever visit porn sites, that you empty the Temp files otherwise others - especially kids - can find where you have been. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 07:00:29 -0800 From: Eric Fisher To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: anybody out there? I find myself referencing 'The Jasta Pilots' all the time -- so am sure I'll get this new one too. You have cleared-up one bit of 'digital warpness' for me, but much still remains in my life! More like 'Twilight Zone' than "X - Files' I guess (whew, really dating myself). For example, the last few days nearly all the mail from the list has been just slightly (but distinctly) out-of-sequence, with answers to messages appearing before the original questions, etc.....(I hear that music & Rod Serling's voice in the background...). (Hmm, how do I know when you actually sent me this....yesterday, last month...???) Cheers, Eric. >Back about a month ago, Eric said: > >> I was very interested in seeing what info you had in store for us re. >> the comments you made a couple of days ago. I haven't seen Americal, but have sheets by Copper State and Pegasus. The CS stuff is dimensionally similar to the Flashback decals but comes in a square sheet. The Pegasus consists of very much smaller hexes - at first I thought it was 1/72 - in strips similar to 4-and 5-colour practice. I haven't got them in front of me but remember CS tones as similar to FB, whilst Peg appears a little darker overall. Super! I'll need 68, 133, 175 and 187 if I don't get this off the net. Also My # 25, 31 & 49 are the newer Blue Cover, which I'll have to replace with pink covered ones to bind them. -Al =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | You fell victim to one of the 'classic' blunders! Look at the World War One magazine thread, over on page 2 or 3 of the forum if interested. It's a weido.
