But be careful, because the blades are so thin that they are prone to break. You maust adjust the bow to make the blade taut, but not too much, because it will break easily if pulled too much. It takes some practice, but it's worth the effort. To avoid sudden changes of direction during a cut, you may use a steady flat surface under the piece to be cut, with a hole to let run the blade across the piece and the surface underneath. Is thact orrect? Hi Michael, I use a "modeller's saw" - can't remember who made it - but I have two different thickness/teeth ratio blades which are about six inches long and reinforced along top to ensure absolute straightness. I use this to cut the chord gap and then scribe the hinge line to drop the control surface - check the plane - some need visible hinges, some have doped fairings. I used to always scribe the gaps but found that I made too big a cut like this. The secret with a saw is absolute squareness and I ALWAYS use a mitre block to hold the wing and guide the saw. Please, share the knowledg. I'm doing the > 'Mailed Gauntlet' DV and have so far considered mask and spray. > Flashars machine. I tried this with a 1/72 Airfix D.V and it worked fine with the still narrower edging, so it'll work better in 1/48. Using the kit parts, make drawings of the tailplanes, fin and rudder which are the required amount undersized for the green parts. Outlines only. Using the office xerox, copy as many as you need onto a piece of paper. Nice and close, don't waste space. Copy the result onto slear decal film. Cut all the bits out carefully. Stick on a piece of card with bluetack. Spray them green. Spray edges of the tail of machine red. Do the same to a scrap of leftover decal film. A little masking takes care of the narrow bits of fuselage which you paint green of course. Use the appropraitely shaped green decals youve made and almost done. use the red film to make strips to edge the green on the fuselage at the LE of the fin and tailplane. Perfect edges. I admit that the reason I tried this mass production decal scenario was a sick feeling that one day I might build a LOT of Jasta 5 planes for a diorama. I don't know how to mask the cow though ! Well, you can imagine what a 10 year old could do to butcher up this kit. When I grew up, I found one at a swap meet (cheap) to finally build it right. Too bad she isn't around now to see it. Paul A. Schwartzkopf >>> 01/07 7:09 PM >>> and on the subject of animals.......do any of you remember the 1/48 20 Mule Team Wagon kit from Boraxo? It was, and I hear still is sometimes available from this soap company. In the 50s you could order one for something like 50 cents and a boxtop from the product. I got one in the late 70s-early80s and it around 2 bucks. What you got was a 1/48 styrene kit of an ore wagon and water tank with 19 not-bad mules- always useful around dioramas. The kit also comes with one horse ("20 mule team" is kind of a misnomer- one horse was included in the wagon set up on the theory that he would keep the mules in line). These animals can be cleaned up and worked pretty well.
