Every Christmas, I go through my kits and donate many to the hospital, which in turn uses them for therapy with these kids. Teaches them patience and manual dexterity skills. Some of them are pretty good modelers in their own right. Our local IPMS club sponsors this giving at our December meeting. Don't we all eventually? Napoleon however rose from obscurity in a small French possession to lead and unite his country, establish a new and successful egalitarian legal and civil system and rebuild central Paris (indisputably one of THE glories of the whole world) as well as much of the rest of France. At various times he dominated Spain, Portugal, Austria, the German States, the Low Countries, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Egypt, Western Russia, etc and drew up plans for invading England. He put members of his family and entourage on the thrones of Italy, Sweden and others and was arguably the most important figure in the World at the beginning of the 19th century. More contemporary music, literature and fine art was inspired by Napoleon than any other figure apart from Jesus Christ. While soubriquets like "winner" and "loser" are pointless, we should perhaps reflect a little more before calling L'Empereur a "looser". Anyway I was originally trying to gently point out that the original statement that France could never claim any military records is arrant nonsense - go to Les Invalides in Paris and look at the Main hall with an enormous stretch of Battle Flags, celebrating major victories at Marengo, Ulm, Jena, Austerlitz, Friedland, Dresden, Borodino etc etc. Napoleon's old guard - le Vieux Garde - are perhaps the most respected unit of elite fighting troops ever - the shout of "Merde" at Waterloo, when the remnants of this hand-picked cadre were faced with surrender or final annihilation resounds in the pages of greater military history long after the exploits of names familiar to this list lapsed into obscurity. Finally - my apologies to the list for such major digression - but you can't leave such incorrect assumptions unchallenged or they become hearsay "fact". As James said, the point was that France has a long and glorious military past, as does many other countries. If anybody wishes to take this any further (about Napoeon not being French for example!) lets do it off-list. Otherwise no more from me on Bony.
