There's only one problem. They do not give the dimensions of the German carbonite bombs. Guesswork leads me to believe that the body of the German 50kg bomb would be about the same size as the British 115 lb H.E:R.L bomb. That gives me a 1/72 length of 13 to 15 mm(.51 to .59 in), or a 1/48 size of 20 to 23 mm (.77 to .89 in) Could anybody corroborate this. If I get the right size for the 50 kg bomb, I have the scale for the other bombs since they are to the same scale. ---------- > From: Dr. Phillip Anz-Meador > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: RE: Bomb source > Date: 03. februar 1998 07:39 > > if anyone else is interested, i've scanned in the british bomb images from > the octopus book "the bombers 1914-1945". if you'd like them (JPG > format), let me know. > > phillip > > > ---------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Feb 1998 13:29:01 -0600 From: "Charles Duckworth" To: Subject: Re: Internet Message Message-ID: <199802081937.NAA25100@mail.primary.net> Ken - thanks ---------- > From: Kenneth Hagerup > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: Re: Internet Message > Date: Sunday, February 08, 1998 8:59 AM > > Charles Duckworth wrote: > > = > > > Message forwarded from Classic Prodigy=AE > > = > > > --------------------------------------------------------------- > > = > > > Subject: Help - Info in lastest Hamilton book list > > Date: Sun, 8 Feb 1998 09:13:19 -0500 > > From: "Charles Duckworth" > > Reply-To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu > > To: Multiple recipients of list > > = > > > Was about to order the Grub Street book on British Two-seater aces from= > the > > last Edward Hamilton book list and found my wife had tossed it out (sou= > nd > > familiar) - if anyone still has this issue could you look in the WW1/WW= > 2 > > section and give me their stock/order number - believe it's the very fi= > rst > > book listed in this section - thanks, Charlie > > Above the War Fronts - 241989, $33.56 > > Ken ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Feb 1998 21:53:51 +0100 From: "Tom Werner Hansen" To: Subject: Blue 3M tape for masking. Message-ID: <199802082049.VAA05683@d1o211.telia.com> One little tip I'd like to share. Most of you probably know this. (For all I know it's in the FAQs.) I tried out the removable 3M sticky tape as a masking medium. Didn't work out too well. Paint seeped under the edge. Tried again using an old painters' trick. After applying the tape, I painted a very thin coat of clear varnish along the edge to prevent the paint from seeping under. Then I sprayed the colour that I wanted as usual. Perfectly straight edge. Apologies to those who have been using this trick for donkey's years. I went to the Milpitas show yesterday and Tom was there with a new catalogue. In it he states that all of his 1/48th WWI kits, except for the resin Pfalz D.VIII, are out of production and are available while supplies last. These include the vacs and the resin. Bad news!!! I tried to get over to talk with him, but he was real busy selling and chatting about his ship kits, which, by-the-way, look very nice. I wanted to find out if this was temporary or permanent. What I used on the Nie.16 was 3M Scotch Wallsaver Removable Poster Tape. I have been using this as a basis for Bob Nogren's vac sanding method, and decide to use it as a masking medium. I photocopied the scale drawings from the Neiuport Datafile Special (yes, Ray would probably be mad at me, but it *was* for personal use), figured out where the paint separation lines were on this, applied one side of the tape to the drawing (it's a double-sided tape), and cut out the drawing separation line. Once I removed the paper from the other side of the tape, I first performed the "forehead method" (where you stick the tape to your forehead to remove some of the tack), then put the tape on the parts. Worked great, and only one small area (very small, mind you) came up with the tape (this was due more to improper washing, than anything else). The great thing about using this tape is that it is double sided - with the "other" side papered - so you can apply it direct onto plans to help you draw out the separations. FWIW, after all the painting was accomplished, I then went over the "hard" areas with no mask, so soften them up a bit. In 1/72nd feathered edges just won't come out right, but these early schemes - to me - are extremely feathered so there should be something, if only a litle. I think it looks smashing, but that's just my opinion. :-) Matt Bittner _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. My guess is that Tom opts to stop production on a certain kit upon his anticipation of its "injected" release. That way he doesn't get stuck with an iventory of kits that no one will probably want. On the other hand, he does have a few "out of production" kits that will probably not turn up as injections in the near future. His vac 1 1/2 Strutter, resin Halb.Cl.II, Halb.Cl.IV, Nie.9/10 come to mind. Maybe, when the mould starts to go bad, he doesn't think it's worth investing in another one. ********************************************************************* Joey Valenciano WW1 modeller, teacher, jazz musician, joeyval@pusit.admu.edu.ph sitarist tel.
