Yes, everyone please let up on this sort of stuff. I personally resisted the temptation to do something of this sort myself as I thought it was a bit much (and with my training in mail systems I can do some REALLY nasty things beyond that of most users). This goes for anyone else who I link to. Currnetly the links page will be on the CD as links, there's too much out there to copy. If you click on a link in the links page it will try to connect to your network or ISP to get to the link. Your conversion articles will get copied to the CD now that you said I could do that. I plan to put a note with the CD that some parts of the site are copyrighted by their contributors and that the CD cannot be commercially duplicated. This should keep it from showing up for sale at PC-shows, etc. Thanks for the permission, Al =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | You fell victim to one of the 'classic' blunders! This will take some time, I've got over 100 scans to make, and plenty of files to edit before I can make a 'test' CD and make sure it works on MAC, PC and Unix systems. Feel free to continue discussing this, but now that I know there's interest you don't have to let me know right now if you want one, I'll let everyone know when they can send in their orders. Message-ID: <9802052054.AA21019@deimos.tx.iex.com> Wow! I just enjoyed one of the best lunch hours (well lunch 2.5 hours) ever. I took a ride over to the LIbrary at UT Dallas. After looking at the Doolittle exhibit they took me back into the Special Collections area and gave me a tour. Holy Smoke! What a collection of book, periodicals and photos! Inside of one door in a small room I same stacks of slide boxes. All slides from the Ferkel (Ferkle??) Collection! Amazing. Unfortunately, the fellow who was working on cataloging them has had a stroke. The highlight of the visit was being permitted to look through a photo album from the Ferkel Collection. It was Marked with Udet, ??? and Goering' names. Amazing photos. Great shots of pilots in groups, pilots with planes etc. Some candid shots. Several photos of cracked up planes. Many photos of E-III, D-VII, D-VIII, Dr1, Halberstadt and DVas. I wish I could have spent more time and been permitted to look at some of the other photo albums. Just amazing the materials they have. At least to me they were amazing! I realize many of you have terrific collections of book and reference materials. I don't. So to get to thumb through a copy of the 1927 Jane's, several Air Trails and several books was quite a thrill. Thanks for letting me share! With my diminished hearing I couldn't understand my guide very well. His name is not written anywhere for me to see. I did try sarching the archives on pease1 with little success. Sorry guys for trashing this poor man's name so completely! Doug -- ------------------------------------------------- 'I am a traveler of | Douglas R. These are for sale. I was given a 37 page list of books that are available from UTD. These are duplicates of books in the library. The funds raised from the sale of these books will be used to continue the cataloging work, binding of periodicals etc. It will also be used to continue to obtain materials for the library. If anyone is interested I will post the list as I have time to write it up. The prices seem pretty fair to me, but I am not expert. Example: Author Title Cond Date Cost Rimell, Raymond L. World War One in the Air Paperback. Signed by Author to Ed Ferko VG 1988 $30 Bishop, William A. Winged Warfare, 1st Edition G 1918 $40 It may be easier for to put this into a MS Word file and email it to anyone who is interested. I found a book on my travels the other day which contains two pictures of Luke that I hadn't seen before -one a close-up facial portrait, the other of him standing in front of one of the D.VII's he shot down on 18/9/18. I reckon the correspondents were probably hoping for more pictures of Luke's SPAD rather than him but if anybody thinks this might be useful I can give more details.
