These are Lozenge files and the final goal would be to scan >in the wing shapes for various German a/c wing shapes, mark the rib >positions then lay the lozenge panels over these, then place the rib >tapes. The final step would be to print the decal. I have been thinking about the same thing for awhile, and how it would apply to ALPS printers. The biggest thing to watch out for is what plane are you covering. Some were covered chord-wise, some length-wise, while some were at a 45 degree angle to the center-line. Plus, when taking this into account, also take into account the width of the "typical" bolt. For some machines that were applied length-wise, you would need to show two "separate bolts". Not only do you have to worry about the lozenge itself, now you have to worry about the rib tapes. Blue? Pink? Lozenge? Plus all of their permutations. I hope this is not meant to be a discouragement to create these decals - I have been discussing this with another list member for a number of weeks, due to the availability of the ALPS. Please continue! I have decals that were generated on an ALPS. Not meaning to be harsh, or a slam in general, but certain decal companies - heck, all of them - would be wise to move to the ALPS and forgo silk-screening. Seriously. The resolution on the ALPS means you can have Nieuport stencils - the ones found on the outside edges of the ailerons and the facing wings, etc. - in 1/72nd be readable, and quite in "focus". There is no longer a want for "blobs" to represent these decals, there exists the technology to print these correctly. On the way back I stopped at the Airport / Adventure Gallery, an aviation art shop at Love Field. While there, the shop owner gave me a flyer for a new Nicolas Trudgian print, "Richthofen's Flying Circus" The brochure shows a scene with three Dr1's, two Albatros, two Camels and a SE5 all engaged in a low altitude dogfight over the front. Looks pretty impressive in the brochure and I'm sure the full size 38 1/4" X 22" print would be even more so. Prices shown are $125 for signed & numbered prints (600), $200 for artist proofs (25) and $325 for Remarques (25). Have any other members seen this print? Any comments on the accuracy of the subjects shown? BTW, for Sandy and the other Hun-Haters, there's another Trudgian print, "Knights of the Sky" that features a mostly red Dr1 going down gloriously in flames. - John ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Dec 1998 19:06:38 -0600 From: "Bill Ciciora" To: Subject: Re: How many Message-ID: For almost a week now I've been wondering why it's so quiet. I belive that the only way to get use of the Fuji kit is to use it as a basis for some kind of massive scratch-exercise. Don´t you agree? Putty, plastic sheet and sanding paper is cheeper than any of the kits mentioned by you. One other reason to why I want to do it this way is that it suites my personaity. Why make thing easy if there is a possibillity to make thing worse........Thats me in a nut-shell. Ask my wife!!! I have not been there for 10 years so I have no good answer to your question. Sorry. However I do know that they have a 3 meter long viggen hanging in the celing. Its apperently made of some new kind of Lego! My cousin told me. He had resently been there. Now, since his interesst in bi-planes is zero he could not tell me eighter. The serch for tha answer will thus go on. I think I may have something - there was also an IPMS article on a bunch of the machines of the unit that may have info.
